Roswell, New Mexico Do aliens really exist? Is Earth the only inhabited planet? In the summer of 1947, unexplained debris found near Roswell, New Mexico raises speculation of alien existence. Even after decades of debate, people still do not agree about the source of the debris. The debate has sparked two major theories: a giant balloon crash and a UFO crash. The wreckage found at Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 has left people wondering what the source is for decades. For instance, many civilians that came to the crash site claimed that they saw corpses of small beings that had big and circular heads, no hair, and eyes with unusual spacing (Steiger and Steiger). In addition, to people who visited the crash site in person, or saw pictures in newspapers, they knew it was not a weather balloon that had crashed. Many believe it was an unidentified flying object, or UFO (“Roswell”). Correspondingly, Jesse Marcel said that the debris could not be properly identified. The debris had strange markings and some of the materials couldn’t be damaged (Tribble). Additionally, Sheriff George Wilcox stated in his interview with Don Schmit and Kevin Randle, authors of UFO Crash at Roswell, that he had seen debris from a UFO and odd-looking creatures. According to Wilcox, “military men ‘who were not kidding’ visited Wilcox and his wife and warned them that they would be killed if they ever told anyone what Wilcox saw at the crash site. Not only would they be murdered, but their children and grandchildren would also be eliminated,” (Steiger and Steiger). Supposing that these eyewitness accounts and Wilcox’s reports are true, the position of a UFO crash at Roswell remains a plausible theory to some
