Rotavirus
Overview-
Almost all children have been infected with rotavirus before 5 years of age. Rotavirus is in fact one of the most common causes of diarrhoea and other more serious infections (rotavirus gastroenteritis), as well as the dangerous dehydration from diarrhoea in infants and young children. Rotavirus infections are responsible each year in the US approximately 3 million cases of diarrhoea and 55,000 hospitalizations for diarrhoea and dehydration in children under 5 years of age.
Causes-
The focus of infection by rotavirus are common during the winter and spring months. Primarily a problem for nurseries, schools and children's hospitals because rotavirus infection is very contagious.

Because antibiotics do not work against diseases caused by viruses, your doctor will not give your child antibiotics to treat rotavirus infection.
American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) recommended that rotavirus vaccination be included among the routine vaccinations given to all children in the United States. The recommendation is to give three doses by mouth to the 2, 4, and 6 months of age.
