“The media is the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.” This quote by Malcolm X has an exact correlation to media in the world today. Media has the ability to impact individuals and society in both positive and negative ways, while always releasing the most current news. With the latest technology, people are able to access whatever they want on a smartphone, computer or tablet almost instantly. But with the use of this comes some negative impacts. One of the biggest negative impacts that Social Media has on individuals and society is the ability to become extremely addicting. It is a bigger problem for children, but even many adults spend countless hours on their devices looking at pictures or reading tweets or statuses. Spending too much time on these social sites can lower motivational levels for many people, especially students. Kids can also be negatively affected by using the different sites if they are used in the wrong way. If a kid or teenager sees a photos or statuses about violence or sex, it can damage their behavior and growth. One of the biggest and scariest downside to social media is when a user shares too much information that can potentially put them in harms way. There are disgusting people in the world and they are constantly looking for irresponsible children or even adults to post information. It talked about how our parents never got to post pictures or write statuses about what went on in their daily lives as teenagers. It also showed some examples of how social media can have very big impacts on people all over the world. There are many sick kids in the world and each individual has his or her story and diagnosis, but the cool thing about social media is that it allows others to see those stories and help out in whatever way they can. It is very cool to see a kid from a small town get a surprise visit from a famous athlete like J.J Watt or LeBron James because of likes on a picture or retweets on a tweet. There are many instances where professional athletes take time out of their extremely busy and rigorous schedule to visit a patient battling a much bigger battle than they fight for in their field of
