Any intervention that can help steer a young offender in the right direction is always a plus. With these Family Group Conferencing, it can help a young offender learn from the mistake that they have made and admit to what they have done. Also, I think that meeting the victims that they have offended plays a major role in the rehabilitation of the offender because they will be able to meet the families and know how much of a negative impact he or she has made on the family that they have offended. In some cases, I believe that these Family Group Counseling can keep a young offender from spending time in youth correctional facilities for the offenses that they have committed when the families come to an agreement on what the punishment should
The NA meeting had a guest speaker named Adam, the most surprising thing about meeting were candor and humor evoked by the speaker. Adam acknowledged that he has been addicted to drugs for seventeen years, and this behavior started when he was in the 7th grade. Adam was genuinely outspoken and humorously shared being in and out of treatment facilities over 28 times costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. The group really identified with the speakers story, and this was exhibited by laughter and comments from the crowd. Actually, I didn’t have any perceived notions about attend NA meeting, my only contention was to better understand this community.
My first artifacts is a program from “2016 Back to school legal updates for school administrators” event that I attended in fall 2016. Attending this event helped me get information on legislative and case law updates. At this event I learned the importance of paying attention to legislative session as it pertains to the field of education. Among a lot of other updates, I learned that the educators are applauding the three main accomplishments from 2016 legislative session: Voluntary formula driven , pre-kindergarten pilot programs
Recent legislation requires schools to implement a Response to Intervention (RTI) model that is based on multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). The goal of RTI is to identify students early who are struggling academically or behaviorally and provide appropriate interventions to prevent these challenges from becoming more serious and detrimental to their success. Under the traditional system, students may not receive extra services until a problem becomes severe, and they meet criteria for a special education qualification. RTI helps schools identify children earlier using systematic and scientific universal screeners of all children. Therefore, RTI gives students who are at-risk the opportunity to receive less intensive intervention services,
AA Meeting Reflection Many people who have never had an addiction may not understand the difficulty of becoming better, and that is because we have never been in circumstances where our life depended upon a substance (Berry & Ramnath, 2013). However, for people who have had a substance addiction, the difficulty to becoming better is harder because they need to regain control over their thoughts and lives. According to the alcoholic anonymous recovery program, a twelve-step meeting is a very efficient program that helps people regain control over their thoughts and their lives. One vital part of this program is the twelve traditions and twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Although the overall goal of this meeting is for members to stay sober while
The community group I visited was Beaches Unity Group, which was located at 322 Penman Road. This was an Alcoholics Anonymous group that provided open discussion for people who were both struggling with alcohol abuse, as well as addiction. It gave the participants an opportunity to introduce themselves, and tell their background story. There where also opportunities to offer advice to the other members. I decided to sit in an AA group because there is history of alcoholism in my family, and so I was curious to hear the stories of other people, and how they are coping with their disorder.
Ms. Thomas stated that the interdisciplinary team works together to create treatment plans for the students. They also conduct treatment plan reviews every three months for the students in the program. The social workers monitor their progress in achieving goals. She was not aware of how the effectiveness is measured, but she assumed that it may be through student graduation rates and students who are being referred to less restrictive settings. The organization is funded through state grants.
I am excited to continue to sit on this committee and help put together a great week. Third, the ASGCU Senate has put on its very first We Hear You Wednesday. This is a great initiative that will really help bring more awareness to students about who the ASGCU Senate is. With this initiative we can interact with students every Wednesday and bring more awareness about the amazing opportunities the Senate can help them
The organizational system that I consistently interact with on a regular basis in my stakeholder group is the administrator, staff and students. Regularly, the rubrics for grading assignments are supposed to be utilizing for all assignments giving by the teacher to the students. However, not all of the educators are using this method to grade their students’ assignments. This rubric assignment, called the “Reflective Response Form” was created as a way to improve students’ academic achievement, and allow them to take a pro-active approach participant in their own learning. For example, every student will use this reflective response form as a guide to track his or her strengths and weaknesses for each content area in the school.
In therapy, if the undesirable behaviors can be picked out than the client and counselor can work together to get rid of those less desirable behaviors. The modern-day behavior therapy has 6 stages: building the relationship, clinical assessment focusing on problem areas and setting goals, choosing techniques and working on goals, assessment of goal completion and closure and follow-up. Each one of these stages has an important role in building a healthy client/counselor relationship. Then we see that with REBT the therapist is not worried about building a good caring relationship with the client. Instead, they focus on pointing out the negative or distorted beliefs they have.
Additionally, as a counselor, it is important to be genuine with whatever feedbacks one presents to the patient and what one believes regarding the situation of the client. Mrs. Perez believes the more authentic and genuine he is with her patients, the more help he will be able to offer the clients. As a counselor, it is important to have a fine and professional interaction with one 's client but boundaries must be maintained. Through this, a counselor is able to demonstrate their focus on helping the patients by showing the client that they understand their problems. It also through such engagements that counselor is able to use the non-judgmental attention that does not require words for illustration in helping the patient.
Being the clinician and conducting an intake interview was one of the most the practical, informative, and thought-provoking assignments I have completed throughout undergrad thus far. While allowing me to practice clinical interviewing skills, I learned how difficult yet essential various skills were in order to successfully complete an intake process. Specifically, I found taking a direct approach and asking specific questions was most successful. For example, with my client, Ian, I was able to find out the most relevant information about his manic tendencies through asking him specific questions. His intake form described having manic tendencies in the past, though there was not enough information there to really get to the core reason for
One of the unique aspects of the Department of Child Development and Family Relations is that many of the department’s large core courses offer teaching assistant opportunities to undergraduate students. Teaching assistant opportunities are valuable for undergraduate students to decide whether to apply as a graduate teaching position, great addition to a resume, and for a letter of recommendation. From my teaching assistant experience, I was able to fully grasp the concepts of middle childhood development, form a new appreciation for professors and teaching assistants, and reflect on myself as a student. In addition, I had the opportunity to strengthen several essential skills such as organizational skills, leadership skills, and communication
Professional reflection As I began my field experience journey, I learned many roles and responsibilities as elementary teacher. My duration in the field was nine weeks. I began training at E. R. Dickson. I developed a great working relationship with the staff and parents in the community. I always knew teaching is my passion.
In society today, communication classes are highly over looked because of our new developing technology. People don’t realize how much a communication class could benefit them. We have lost sight of verbal communication skills. This class has taught me to put my phone down and communicate with others. It has opened my eyes to the real world without technology.
