In Jon Sweeney’s lecture and book, “ When Saint Francis Saved The Church”, he spoke about Francis leading a revolutionary life. There were two points that helped support with Francis leading a revolutionary life. Those points were friendship and poverty. Sweeney spoke about how important friendship and poverty was to Francis. These points helped with Francis learning what kind of person he would be and do with his life.

Estep marks the birth of Anabaptism in the first chapter during the Reformation alongside well known reformers such as Martin Luther and Ulrich Zwingli as the first baptism of the Swiss Brethren took place in 1525. He went on to illustrate the disputes that occurred between the Swiss Brethren and Zwingli to help the reader distinguish clearly between the two including the October Disputation in 1523. Estep also points out that the ability to distinguish between the Anabaptists, inspirationists, and rationalists is vital to understanding the Reformation. The role that the key figures like Conrad Grebel, Felix Manz, and George Blaurock played during the development of Anabaptism is thoroughly described in the second chapter. Estep also portrays passion and commitment to truth along with the persecution, imprisonment, torture, and martyrdom that followed the Anabaptists as they began to share and teach the truth of God’s word that they were so dedicated to.
The practice of Catholicism is a doctrine and practice which are generally regarded as Catholic rather than Protestant or Eastern Orthodox. He saw that the Dominican Order of Preachers were able to roam free through the prison, as long as they were spreading their religious messages. Noble’s saw this as a way to get out of his cell and roam free with other prisoners. So, Nobles decided to join the Dominican Order of Preachers. However, it takes years to become one; and he had so little time left.

Additionally, the fact that most clergy was exempt from tax but could own property upset the people. 2. Luther’s intentions and actions of the 95 thesis to the Peace of Augsburg was to tell the Archbishop Albert that the indulgences were making penance insignificant, going against what was in the Gospels, and taking the importance of charity out of Christian’s lives.

St. Boniface (whose real name was Winfreth), served God at a very young age and joined the monastery after his richly fathers passing. Once in the monastery Boniface gave up all worldly possession and endowed himself in the work of God. During medieval times, monk’s activities and values were very important. They are a group of people that are knowledgeable in classical world writing and different languages.

Moreover, White provides a lot of evidences by using quotes in the Holy Rosary that supports why Charles refers to Holy Scriptures while ruling Flanders. Throughout this article, I found White’s analysis of Count Charles’ religious life really useful because he provides good examples of why religion has made a big impact to governing a society and how religion can change people’s perspective into believing certain

According to Father Holmes, the priest’s role of managing a parish is linked to his threefold “munus” (i.e. task) of being a priest, prophet, and king. As a parish administrator, a pastor must know how to do long range planning; how to successfully implement that plan, how to consult with other people both in and outside of the parish, how to animate and guide his parishioners, and how to be a good financial steward of the resources that he is entrusted with. Each of these five components of parish administration, according to Father Holmes, are linked to two particular virtues that correspond to the threefold munus of the priesthood. The pastor, as a priest at the altar, needs to be holy and grateful; as a prophet in the pulpit, he should be truthful and faithful in his preaching and teaching; and finally, as a king or governor in the confessional, he must demonstrate forgiveness and good judgment. Father Holmes concludes this chapter by pointing out that these six virtues should be “the cornerstones of… [a priest’s] management
One of the major European movement during the sixteenth century was the Protestant Reformation. In the beginning, this movement intended to reform the practices and beliefs of the Catholic Church. Before the age of dissent and division, the church was viewed as the sole vehicle for salvation. However, with all the turmoil within the Catholic Church, the people has lost faith in the church’s ability to lead them into salvation. They have lost sight in its very core.
Innocent appointed Cardinal Rainaldo to work with Clare "to compose a Rule that would recognize unendowed Franciscan women in law" (114). The Rule established "the Order of Poor Sisters that Blessed Francis founded. " At the heart of her Rule, Clare defined exactly what she meant by living in poverty "specifically by not receiving or having possession or ownership either themselves or through an intermediate person, except as necessity requires for the integrity and proper seclusion of the monastery" (117). This would eliminate misinterpretations by Clare’s successors. There was no room for misconception of Clare’s model of a life in poverty in the same way the Franciscan friars steered away from the ideal after St. Francis’s death.

The challenges Buddhism faced as it arrived in China were mainly linguistic challenges, different philosophical context, diverse conceptions of the ideal perfect being, and the core differences in social values. In order to overcome these challenges, there were translations made, and efforts put into searching for links between Buddhist and Chinese beliefs at that time. Moreover, there were cultural differences between the North and the South, which lead to a different process of Buddhism’s arrival within China. The first challenge Buddhism faced was the language barrier. Buddhism was based on Sanskrit, so it was necessary to translate the teachings and dialogues from Sanskrit to Chinese.
