Vladimir Lenin VS. Old Major During the Russian Revolution, Vladimir Lenin took charge in rebelling against the czar. Eventually, he managed to take control of the Russian government and attempted to make it his utopia. Just like Lenin, Old Major, a character from Animal Farm written by George Orwell, supported rebellion and envisioned a perfect community where all were equal. Vladimir Ulanov, or more commonly known as Vladimir Lenin, was born April 10, 1870, in Ulyanovsk, Russia (Lenin). Lenin grew up with his six siblings, mother, and father. His family had raised him in a well-educated household. Lenin did well in school and graduated first in his class. At times, life was difficult on Lenin and his family. In 1887, Lenin’s brother, Aleksandr Ulyanov, was executed. Aleksandr Ulanov took part in a group that had planned to assassinate Emperor Alexander III (History). While taking part in the rebellion, Lenin attended law school at the University of Kazab. Because of his defiance, the university expelled him. However, he continued to study law and became a lawyer in 1891. A couple of years after, he joined a Marxist movement. Lenin and several others were arrested during the movement. This group of people was imprisoned for fourteen months. Once he had served his time in prison, Lenin was exiled to Siberia. He stayed there for three years then later moved to Switzerland. While living in Switzerland, Lenin continued to take part in the revolution. The Russian Marxists broke into two groups: Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. The Bolsheviks agreed with Lenin’s views. The Mensheviks, however, had different ideas. In 1905, an uprising broke out in Russia. It was not possible for Lenin to take part in this, yet he still fought to overthrow the czar.
