Types of Project Funded
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a government agency within the department of health and human services. It is a branch of United States Department of Health and Human Services. SAMHSA agency support many programs that leads to prevention of substance abuse and mental health, behavior health treatment and services, and recovery support of individuals, families and communities in the United States of America. It aims at reducing illnesses, disability, death and the high costs resulting from drug abuse as well as mental illnesses. SAMHSA provides leadership and devotes its resources, including programs, policies, information and data, contracts and grants, to help the United States act on the knowledge that:
• Behavioral Health is essential for overall wellbeing
• Prevention works
• Treatment is effective
• People recover from mental and substance use disorders

Through its Intramural Research Program, as well as grants and contracts to investigators at research institutions around the country and overseas. There are three different categories: Community Services Program, Research Career Program, and Research Project. Community Service program focus is drugs use/ alcoholic abuse prevention.
