The SAT has been redesigned multiple times since its first test in 1926. The test lasts approximately three to four hours, and tests over writing, critical reading, mathematics. The ACT was not introduced until 1959 by Everett Franklin Lindquist, who at the time was a professor at the University of Iowa. Lindquist developed the ACT to be a competitor to the SAT.
Ted Tran Ms. Yelton English III DC 11 April 2023 The SAT and ACT needs to be changed The SAT and ACT have made a considerable impact on students nowadays in society through college admissions. Although there are benefits to the test such as scholarships and ranking, some students have struggles and unfairness through the test, especially with low-income or minority backgrounds. In addition, students also have had test anxiety while taking the SAT and ACT which discourages them from the test.
Have you ever been bullied before? Most people say it's not a problem, but you might not agree. I think we try to ignore the fact that bullying happens right in your school. Maybe if teens knew about the 4 Way Test it wouldn’t happen. I believe that as a school it is our job to get the word out about the 4 Way Test.
The first attempt and success to climb Mt. Everest occured in 1953. The SAT and ACT tests only check to see what vocabulary the student has and how quickly they can come up with the correct answer. The math sections just find out if the student is able to come up with the correct answer with the amount of time given. This causes serious concern due to the fact that students will not be on as much of a time crunch when they are doing their work for college classes, which are what these standardized tests are designed to predict. Because of this, it is not reasonable to assess a student’s abilities solely based off of their test
Aptitude is defined as readiness and quickness in learning, or, general intelligence. Colleges have attempted to measure aptitude, in order to be more selective in the pool of students that apply, through various means, such as Grade Point Average, or Standardized Tests. The two main tests for aptitude in the United States are the ACT, and the SAT. Although the tests have been used for decades, the SAT in particular has been the subject of heated debate over the validity, reliability, and overall honesty of its ability to measure aptitude. The fact is, the SAT is a fundamentally unfair system, as the test significantly lowers the chances of high-quality students being admitted into a college; in actuality, it rewards basic knowledge of many subjects, rather than an actual understanding of the area of study a student will major in, which, in turn, results in racial and socioeconomic disadvantages, through differential scores and cost of the test.

This benefits the good ol’ US of A because it can richly reap from the desperation of the people. Everyone who is “fortunate” enough to make it here is pushed to the point of exhaustion and can only say they have only made sufficient to survive. Perhaps it depends on who you ask.
In comparison to the 21st century, the SAT and ACT are just a small sampling of the tests most students will be faced with before entering college or even graduating from high school. There are SAT II examinations measuring an individual subject and four-hour long AP tests given for college credit. There even exist pre-tests before the real tests. The PSAT is offered and taken by many students during their junior year in preparation for the actual SAT - and this is only high school. Currently, most states mandate yearly evaluation testing for every grade with some form of regulated assessment used in grades K-12.
