In today 's society, time has become on of the most precious resources. No one ever seems to have enough, and everyone looks for a way to save it. The invention of the car allowed people to get from point A to point B much faster than what was possible with a horse, and the cell phone allows us to communicate with anyone from anywhere. But, when you combine these two technological wonders, the ensuing carnage has caused some states to create laws against this pairing. These laws are a necessary evolution in our technological world, due to our slow reaction time and the human limits on our brains. But even more important, these laws protect our young. In that amount of time a car moving at 40 miles per hour can travel 5 feet! Not only is it mentally difficult to talk on the phone while driving, it is physically impossible to do both at the same time. By talking while driving, you are betting on losing odds that your brain will focus on the road, not the conversation. Along with all the scientific facts that prove the dangers of talking on the phone while driving, there is yet one more shocking and disheartening statistic. The DMV crash data shows that of all cell phone related crashes, 78 percent of drivers were under the age of 20, and 68 percent of these teens died as a result of these accidents. The leading cause of accidents for people aged 20 and under is distracted driving, the leading distraction being cell phone use. Teenagers have a distinct disadvantage when it comes to distracted driving; lack of experience. A more experienced driver is more likely to notice a dangerous situation than a new driver, and therefore can react to it sooner.
