The term ‘safeguarding’ is broader than the one ‘child protection’. While safeguarding includes the promotion of the welfare of children and their protection from harm in general, child protection is part of this too but refers to the action in which to take if a child is at immediate risk of abuse or neglect. Safeguarding strategies are put in place to prevent neglect and abuse from happening and includes the protection of children from maltreatment, an impaired health and development and unsuitable care. This means having strategies put in place to help children have the best outcomes of growing up with a consistent provision of effective care.
