Detective Deirdre Enright says, “You don’t have enough to put Adnan away, not to me you don’t,” in episode seven of the Serial podcast. Sarah Koenig is the narrator of this podcast, and she delivers the evidence in an unbiased tone so that the audience can develop their own stance on the case, without being subconsciously swayed by her opinion. The case focuses on the trial of Adnan Syed, and debates whether or not he killed Hae Min Lee on January 13th, 1999. After weighing in all the facts, rumors, and theories, the only logical answer is that Adnan is, without a doubt, innocent of murdering Hae Lee. Pretty much the only thing the prosecution has to go off of is the cell phone records of that day. There is no other solid piece of evidence. …show more content…

She had a great reputation and was known to be one of the best attorneys money could buy. When Adnan’s family heard about Gutierrez, the entire Muslim community started chipping in to pay for her. Be that as it may, during the trial, something wasn’t right. Shamim Syed, Adnan’s mom, said that Gutierrez started bullying Adnan’s family for more money than the original arrangement. At one point, she even asked for $10,000 cash. Another couple who hired Gutierrez for a case around the same time as Adnan’s, Ron and Sue, say she was also giving them trouble. According to them she was very late filing briefs, hard to get ahold of, and constantly asked for more money. Going back to Adnan’s case, there are some mistakes made that she could’ve avoided. A crucial one being Asia McClain’s potential alibi for Adnan. Asia was Adnan’s classmate, and she distinctly remembers talking to him after school at the Woodlawn public library on January 13th. Yet, Gutierrez never contacted her, seriously? Additionally, Gutierrez told Adnan not to testify at trial. Why? According to jurors, they would’ve prefered if he did. Also, during Syed’s first trial, she was called a liar, got heated, and called for a mistrial. This was a mistake, not to mention extremely unprofessional. People said it was looking good for Adnan, and he could have a different life if she would’ve just kept going …show more content…

In fact, Sarah Koenig and Dana Chivvis tried to recreate the timeline of what supposedly happened after school on January 13th. They went from Woodlawn high school, where school gets out at 2:15pm, to Best Buy, where the murder was said to take place. Koenig and Chivvis accounted for the time it would’ve taken to get out of the parking lot and drive during weekday traffic. They pulled that part off in the allotted time slot, but just barely. This shows that it wasn’t impossible to Adnan to have killed Hae by 2:36pm, but it would’ve had to have been done perfectly. Another puzzle yet to be solved is the entirety of Jay’s Patapsco State Park story. This can’t be ignored, because when Jay talks about it, he uses so much vivid detail that it’s hard to believe that he made it up. However, come trial, poof. It never happened. Either way, this narrative doesn’t match the itinerary. Patapsco is twenty minutes from where they were before, and if Adnan wants to get back to school in time for track in order to secure an alibi, there’s no way he could’ve made it on time. It doesn’t make any sense that they drove that far just to smoke some
