Throughout life humans wonder whether God exists or not. Different societies have different beliefs on how humans came to be. However, everyone has the same questions, why were humans placed on this Earth? Is there a greater purpose in life or is it plain and humdrum? Some believe that humans are free to make their own choices, whereas others say that one must follow the path of a higher being. According to Sartre “man is condemned to be free. Condemned, because he did not create himself, yet, [he] is free; because, once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does” (Sartre 425). Sartre’s argument states that people are condemned because humans do not create themselves, however, they are allowed to choose who he or she becomes and what they do. Therefore, although humans may not have been the creators for his or her own existence, humans have the capability of being the creators for who they are after birth. Thus, unlike the belief that everything is set in stone once an individual is born, humans are granted the ability to control his or her own lives, and the freedom to determine what his or her purpose is. In life, people are told what to believe in and who to believe in, even if he or she does not agree. For example, a path of what God or a higher being has defined for us or a path that we as humans have created for ourselves. In other words, “not only is man what he conceives himself to be, but he is also only what he wills himself to be after this thrust towards existence” (Sartre 425). Therefore, everyone is faced with decisions that they must make every single day. Each choice being good or bad and chosen by one’s own free will. Every choice that one makes comes with an outcome, an outcome that one is stuck
