Alex, I really liked your post. A few great points I want to hit on before diving into your questions. For one, the perpetuation of the noble savage is clear and paired with the idea of accepted culture of conquest really reminds me of the US ideal "manifest destiny". One line in the De Las Casas readings discusses who the indigenous peoples "must have known what was going on" when their culture was destroyed during conquest. This idea that they had a clue about the damage that was ensuing paints these people as complacent beings - when really they were skilled warriors, great farmers who lacked competitive firearms.
Freedom Summer, or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a volunteer campaign launched in June 1964 to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible in Mississippi, which had historically excluded most blacks from voting. The project also set up dozens of Freedom Schools throughout Mississippi to aid the local black population. The projects leadership and funding came from the SNCC and COFO, along with hundreds of white college students in the north. In 1963, the SNCC organized a mock vote for blacks, which gave them a chance to prove they were capable of understanding politics. The civil rights activists from both organizations and the white volunteers from the north faced many challenges during the campaign.

In our society we are allowed to pick if we continue our education or go into the work force and have the freedom to choose our own job and what we want to do. Another way our societies are different is that in your group that you are put in you all live together unlike in our society we get to choose where we and who we live with. Also our societies differ are from how emotions are allowed to be showed in Anthem you must be happy all the time it is forbidden to be unhappy. Compared to or society we are allowed to show all different types of emotions like happiness , Anger, lust and many more.
The Structural- Functional Analysis of Dead Heads For the video of dead heads, the best approach seemed to be the structural functional analysis. The different cultural norms shown in this video can be explained best through the structural functional approach. Before expanding on that, dead hands are seen as deviants, there are several reasons for that. I completely agree with Rousseau on the term “noble savage”. Rousseau believed that man is born naturally good and then corrupted by society and this statement is correct. Kids are born not knowing race but are taught racism by society and their parents. In the civil rights movement, white children were taken away from black children because they were deemed dirty and not the same prestige as white people. Although both children did not see any problem with playing with each other, white and black parents advised their kid to stay away from them.

In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows the kids’ return to their natural state of savagery as they drift further and further away from civilization.
