Please consider me for the Cobb, Sebastian, Greenwell Scholarship in Technical Communication. I am a web developer transitioning into a web designer role over the last few years and studying technical communication at the University of North Texas is a key part of that transition. Due to my background in web development, I understand the common misperception that web design is graphic design. While that can be part of it, the key component of web design is the organization of information in a logical fashion and the development of content, both textual and visual. In addition, an often-overlooked part of web design, especially concerning content management systems and user administration, is the development of documentation to allow users with little to no technical background the resources to provide effective administration. This background in web development and design are integral to my future development as a technical communicator. The ability to communicate content is just as important as the content itself and my ability to build and deploy a web platform is invaluable to me as I further my studies in technical communication. My experience with writing web content for freelance positions, my own website, and Farm Credit Bank of Texas exposed me to writing for an audience for the first time and considering their needs and interests first, rather than my own.
