Statistics show that about 15 percent of adults in america are illiterate. Most jobs, if not all, require reading and writing of some sort. If we make a change while people are still young, the country will have a stronger economy. Volunteering more time to help the youth of this country become better citizens will benefit everyone directly and indirectly involved. I am the best candidate for this scholarship because I am willing to make sacrifices to ensure the benefit of others. As a teacher, I would have plenty of time to volunteer at local places. At the library for instance, I would help children read and become more interested in a wide variety of reading material. As the children grow, they will become a part of an improving work force
