Our community in specific is lacking of many essential needs. I believe that education starts in the very early steps of an individual’s life. I have had a mission on my head for a while now. This mission is to help young Hispanics to have access to early-staged education. I want to see my people achieve their beloved American Dream.
I like to be involved in schools because I value education, especially since I am a first-generation student, which is why I am interested in this position because I have a passion in helping students become successful and motivate them to go far in what they desire. Throughout my education experience, I’ve noticed that students who struggled more in academics tended not to care and teachers would be frustrated. I noticed that these students needed more of a support system and motivation. I decided to help these students by volunteering at schools. For example, I volunteer at Image elementary and a program called La Plaza.
Having 180 volunteer hours has always been something for me to be proud of. Each summer I have taken time off of work and gone on mission trips all around the country and I hope to continue this when I go off to college at Texas A&M. I have a math brain and hope to use that to my advantage in the business world and in my future efforts to give back. My lifetime goal is to graduate Texas A&M with a business degree and to go out in the world making a difference for the company I work for, along with the organizations I donate to.

I am the best candidate for this scholarship because I have experienced a hard and unwanted event, but I have grown from it and become a better and stronger person because of my parents, which will help me power through college and become a civil lawyer. My mom and dad although divorced, have supported me through every event in my life, making me the person I am today. Living with my mom, I have learned how hard it really is to do things that my dad would have done in a heartbeat. As I grew up knowing that my dad was not coming back through the back door as I hoped, I learned how hard life really is and how life is not fair.
Volunteering time at church and school have become a major part of what I do. The youth group I belong to at St. Thomas UCC collects items and put together hygiene bags for the YWCA. For school, I often volunteer to help with the bands, working in the kitchen for Indoor Drumline shows and helping to set up the Craft Show. I also assist my classmates if they request it. If a student is absent, I will take responsibility to send them notes they may have missed in class, and also what they homework is so they can attempt to do it.
As I begin my college education, I want to continue doing my best in order to accomplish my goal of becoming a registered nurse. With the scholarship money I can have the peace of mind of solemnly focusing on college. Students who have to work to continue their education have trouble focusing on school and do not have the extra time to study or go to tutoring sessions. In many cases, having to work while attending college usually leads to failing or dropping the class due to extra stress and the idea of income. Since I only live with my mom,and she just has one job to pay all of our bills, paying for college is far from our minds. Even though my mom has worked hard to give me everything I needed and supported me all my life, she just doesn’t have enough to afford the privilege of me going to college. But with the help of this scholarship, I might be able to get a college education. If I get this scholarship,I promise that I will not leave it to waste. I will apply this scholarship to help me in my first years at TMCC.
My reasons for wanting to serve Peace Corps Volunteer are personal and intellectual. First of all, I want to share the knowledge I have acquired throughout my life by making myself available and becoming part of something bigger. I’ve had the opportunity to attend school and I recently completed a graduate degree; this has been a great accomplishment not only for me, but for my family as well. Picking to attend a Community college for me is the best choice that I picked for my education. Community colleges provide a great service to students in many more ways other than just education. They help students who are unsure what they want to do or are unable to attend a four year university. Community Colleges also provide continuing education even after they have gotten a degree and a job.
With fewer financial worries, I could pursue internships and research opportunities that would enhance my learning experience and create connections to the professional world. Volunteering is when you freely offer to do something without pay. In a person’s life, they have at least participated in community service one time. Whether it be working the concession stand at a ball game, picking up the mail for an elder, or even babysitting. For some people, volunteering helps them feel like they play an essential role while they are giving back to their community. Although volunteering is purely an act of kindness, it can also be very helpful in some people’s lives, such as making them feel like they are the difference makers.
This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
