I plan to contribute as an active participant within the Living Learning program by attending study groups and help other with my finding/ recommendations. As a Regents’ scholar, I plan to exhibit the values and friendliness of a great community member. I will be actively involved in events and programs geared towards the community goal. I expect to interact with my fellow students daily, and bring the attitude and character of what Texas A&M stands for. I will participate in as many events as my schedule will allow to create a better sense of community and maybe find a life long friend.
Regularly, I work as a volunteer at American Cancer Society. I aspire to assist the one who are on the edge of life. The fight against cancer is tough, and the patients need all the supports that they can get. The volunteer opportunity helps me realize that I’m not the center of the universe, but we are the universe. The best feeling when a person does such thing is the smile on cancer patients’ faces.
However, I have also gained many life experiences that some many never have, I have participated in the Ross County Queens’ Contest, went to 4-H camps during the summer, and have had the opportunity to raise and show hogs at the county fair. Additionally being a Camp Counselor, a member of Junior Fair Board, and Junior Leaders great
I wish to volunteer for the Texas Heath Dallas because I would like to gain experience and knowledge about careers in medicine as well as give back to the community. Volunteering in hospitals helps you learn about health care and how the hospital experience is different for social classes. You will see patients at their highest and lowest extremes of emotion and be able to assist them with the rudimentary yet crucial tasks. I would like to gain experience with working with others especially since everyone is unique with their own personalities and experiences. My future goal is to become a cardiologist, however, not just a cardiologist.
A volunteer experience of mine that comes to mind is one that is probably my most favorite volunteer experience yet. It is one that I get to do at my very own school called DUCK Week (Doing Unselfish Charities for Kids), which is a week long event that I have been a part of since I joined Piedmont Schools as a second grader. What makes this charity unique is that it focuses only on a member or a few members in our very own community, which is why we are able to be so successful with it. It is easier for someone to understand the need to help when it is someone that they may know. This small town in Oklahoma rallies around community members and together we raise funds to help those in need.
It also enables anybody to have that long-lasting and significant impact on society. Providing volunteer services gives me the opportunity to help someone in need while also advancing my life skills and wisdom. I like participating in community service because it is really fulfilling for anyone who gives back to their community. As I learn how it teaches me compassion and understanding, I also think it's crucial. This is a pillar that I consider to be of utmost importance.
Besides my aspirations to study abroad, I hope to continue developing my passion for volunteering by leading an independent volunteering program for poverty-stricken families in my community at the College of Charleston. I intend to enhance not only myself, but my college and community by being a driven, involved
Volunteering at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System truly cemented what my perception of what service is. Over the summer, I helped out for over a hundred hours in
In my opinion, I’ve achieved and exceeded three of the most important expectations- being a responsible citizen, a caring family member, and a lifelong learner. Being a responsible citizen is something each and every one of us have to uphold, something important to us, and to everyone around us. But how on earth do we achieve that? Well, I believe that I accomplished this expectation by aiding and supporting local organizations and charities. Volunteering is an act that helps everyone around us,
I have had the unforgettable opportunity to personally raise $1,400 for kids to go to summer camp, whose families could not afford it otherwise. I have worked at food drives, homeless shelters, and kid’s programs in my town, in hopes to make someone’s day a little bit better and ultimately make my community stronger. These experiences shaped who I am today. While I cherish the experience I had making a difference in my own town, I am ready to grow and leave a positive impact somewhere else in the country.
I volunteered through an organization called Feeding Many. As a volunteer, we planted community gardens where the food produced is donated for those struggling to afford their daily needs. In preparation for joining the NHS, I was an active member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and accrued over 70 hours of volunteer time during my tenure. As a middle school student I volunteered as a leader for WEB (Where Everybody Belongs). WEB is a program that assigns a responsible leader/mentor for a group of incoming sixth graders to help them acclimate to their first year of middle school.
For example, I am an active member of the FPC band. I have met a lot of new people being in that club that helped inspire me to make a bigger impact in my community. As I begin volunteering more time outside of school I realized how much I enjoyed dedicating my time to help those around me. Motivating others to do the same then became my goal for my future. My intelligence and intellect are also very important to me and thus have led me to this situation.
How you have impacted your community through volunteerism and how you plan to use your education, talents, and personal attributes to improve your community. In life there are moments when one realizes that giving back to their community is more important than their selfish deeds, one receives something more important than their own pleasure, knowledge or experience. By helping others we are able gain experience on how to care for children because my goal is to become a kindergarten teacher. I have impacted my community by volunteering at a local organization called the Urban Bridge and Cliff House Community, an organization that helps elementary and middle school students after school with their homework and offer them a mentor that will
I credit most to volunteering where it has inspired me to become a Lifeguard by indoctrinating me with the skills of courage, responsibility, and leadership. I acquired empathy when my mother took me to get my first haircut. I donated my hair to Locks of Love, an institution that creates wigs for people in ill-health. It made me feel good knowing I could do something to help others. From that moment on, I donated my time in various capacities.
I have learned that even things like feeding someone a light meal or giving them a place to stay, has a dramatic effect on the people you help. Even though I only did a little bit of work, setting up tables and silverware,I think that this experience helped me understand the importance of the values the Gospel encourages. I have seen how the effect of practicing those values helps other people. I think that service experience brought about some justice. Before, the homeless men and women would probably be living on the streets by themselves without anyone to talk to or food
