I’ve always been passionate about helping kids feel valuable in life. The last few years I have had great support and success in doing so by providing
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Bryan Le, a freshman that is currently attending a charter school by the name of “Downtown College Prep”. I am currently living with my parents and two younger siblings, one brother and one sister. Over my years in a public elementary school, I had seen others being happy because of one’s help and that made me feel happy inside. I then thought of ways to help others when I stumbled upon the fact that doctors help people everyday, which seemed as a great way to help many people so that they may continue to be happy in life. As I entered Downtown College Prep, I was urged by the staff to explore my options and to set a goal in life.
I also volunteer in the school as a PTO board member. This volunteer time in the school has offered a perspective that not every parent, resident, or taxpayer may have. I would like to share my perspective with you.
In 11 years at Mechanics Grove School I have been fortunate enough to teach both 4th and 5th grades. I am always seeking opportunities to increase my level of involvement and responsibility. I am the school's Capacity Builder for the Rising Star School Improvement Team. This position has required me to actively participate in each of the building Professional Learning Communities in order to communicate Rising Star Plan initiatives while at the same time gaining input as to the effectiveness of the plans in place. My ability to listen and understand has been an incredible asset in the school improvement plan process.
Moreover, I am so happy I have the opportunity to help others find places to serve. At Jenks East Elementary, I help a third-grade teacher manufacture some of the arduous, yet necessary facets of education.
I have had the unforgettable opportunity to personally raise $1,400 for kids to go to summer camp, whose families could not afford it otherwise. I have worked at food drives, homeless shelters, and kid’s programs in my town, in hopes to make someone’s day a little bit better and ultimately make my community stronger. These experiences shaped who I am today. While I cherish the experience I had making a difference in my own town, I am ready to grow and leave a positive impact somewhere else in the country.
Where did I Volunteer? Originally I wanted to join an organization for my volunteer experience (similar to how I had done in the past) but after contacting organizations myself, it seemed too difficult just to choose a time and date for when I volunteered. Instead of an organization I choose to do my volunteer work and spend my time around my own neighbourhood, at Mackenzie Park. What did I do: For my volunteer experience I choose to go inside Mackenzie forest and pick up any type of litter that I could see, this included dog poop, litter, bottles, cigarette and apparently pregnancy testes?
This quarter in child psychology, we have been given the opportunity to volunteer in an elementary school. Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I volunteer at Oak Ridge Elementary with Mrs. Anderson’s first grade class from 10:15 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. Mrs. Anderson and a special education teacher accompany the 25, six and seven year olds. The classroom is very bright and colorful and contains a sink, desk for each student, and many posters throughout the room. By the time I arrive at 10:15 a.m., the students are coming back from their specialist class.
From a very young age, my parents taught me the importance of kindness and why it is always good to give back. With such an upbringing, my desire to teach in New York City is greatly influenced by the fact that it is the city I grew up in. Having gone to school in New York, I got to learn under the best teachers and working in New York as a teacher will give me the opportunity to give back to my community and help my students the same way my teachers helped me. I am interested in teaching in a high needs school because I believe that all students deserve the best teachers. I have worked with children since I was 18 years old.
Over the years I have learned that helping kids is what brings me the most joy. Education provides children with inspiration, guidance and knowledge. Everything I do as a teacher will be will be to help better my students, so inevitably I will be able to make a difference. Weather I am able to impact 1 or 200 students lives, either
Throughout my career as an educator, I have tried my best to leave a positive impact on as many students as possible. As a high school construction teacher, I am preparing young men and women to step into society and be productive citizens. I have come to a point in my professional career that I want to move to the next level which is administration. As an administrator on my campus, I can still do what I enjoy doing and that is helping kids achieve and reach their potential. An administrator told me a long time ago that it is all about the kids and getting to know them and forming a relationship.
Although, I didn’t originally choose elementary education as a career path, once I began college I soon realized that there’s nothing else I’d rather do with my life than helping change the lives of others. When I was younger, my grandmother was an elementary school teacher. I loved walking down to her classroom every afternoon once school was over and playing with other children whose moms were teachers, that’s where my interest in teaching began. I remember all the times when I would force my little brother to by my student as I taught him anything I could think of in my bedroom that doubled as a classroom. My aunt is a middle school science teacher at Harrisburg Middle School, and I am so inspired to hear stories of all her hard work paying off in the classroom.
I am a first year student and I was looking for opportunities to be more involved in the Ryerson community. I do have experience in volunteering at an elementary school in the Peel District School Board and I personally enjoyed my time as a volunteer in the past. As a volunteer I had the responsibilities of grading test, assisting students that had difficulty with lessons, planning activities, and supervising students to ensure a safe working environment. My previous volunteer experience has allowed me to build good communication skills with children and teachers. I want to dedicate my time to helping support the youth in our community and hopefully in the process I will be able to make a difference in a students life by helping them overcome
I could connect with the boys and girls I tutored through a mutual desire to learn and to teach; I would help with English and math and they would teach me Spanish after we had finished with their work. The students were not made to feel lesser if they did not have a full grasp of the homework but felt at ease when they saw how I similarly struggled with Spanish. I asked questions because I had a genuine interest in their lives. They could see that I was not just another person coming to complete community service hours but, rather, I tutored because I cared about their personal
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
