Agency Mission Pupil Services is an agency within Los Angeles Unified School District under the Student Health and Human Service Division and their mission statement is the following: “To ensure that all LAUSD students are enrolled, attending, engaged, and on-track to graduate.” The agency firmly believes that within every student is a highly capable and motivated high school graduate. Agency Structure Pupil services partner with a variety of district and non-district agencies such as the City of Los Angeles. The City of Los Angeles pays for 16 PSA counselors, 1 lead counselor, and 1 coordinator position to be co-located at FamilySource Centers which are non-LAUSD agencies.
This week the Boys and Girls club of Austin has taken on a very important and large fundraising opportunity. The are running their event through an organization called Amplify Austin. The Boys and Girls club of Austin has set the mission statement as, "Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens"(Amplify Austin.) They are looking to raise $450,000 for the general Austin area, and through the Amplify Austin platform are able to reach out to people who are interested in running their own fundraising events. I think what they are doing is smart in that they are not leaving the responsibility of raising money solely on themselves.
The non-profit organization I volunteered for was Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School. Opened in 1970 as the second public elementary school in Palm Springs (The Village of Palm Springs, n.d.), it is located at 4200 Purdy Lane. The school does not have a mission statement, but is under the jurisdiction of the School District of Palm Beach County, which has a mission statement: “The School District of Palm Beach County is committed to providing a world-class education with excellence and equity to empower each student to reach his or her highest potential with the most effective staff to foster the knowledge, skills, and ethics required for responsible citizenship and productive careers.” (School District of Palm Beach County, n.d.)
In this job experience, I have learned how to develop routines, organize activities, and prepare meals. I was employed in this job for four years and retired because I decide to focus on my first year of college. I have not only had experience with children by working but also by participating as a volunteer in some of my community’s organizations. I have served as a volunteer in Henry F. Kammann Elementary School for five years. During these years I have had a closer experience with children who are enrolled in school.
It hits my passion. I am in school to get my degree in Early Childhood Education. I want to make a difference in those students who are less fortune than I am. I have and still struggle with poverty and a speech impairment but it doesn’t stop me. And in
Explanation of Evidence I am part of YouthForce a program within the Boys and Girls Club for teens who want work experience as well as opportunities to learn and strengthen skills such as personal management and teamwork. We have YouthForce University once a month and this is when we all come together to participate cooperatively and productively in work teams to identify and solve problems. One example of this would be when we go together to be part of the reviewing committee to change/update the Boys and Girls Club of Portland mission statement. As a team we had to work together to find outdated words in the mission statement or phrases that we would like to be reworded.
As my final years of high school draws near many of my family members begin to bombard me dying to know what my plans are for the future. Questions such as; where I plan on going to college or what I intend on majoring in. In the summer of my sixth-grade year, I was accepted into the Bogota Police Emergency Services Youth Academy. Their extensive week-long training program is what shaped me into the woman the I have become today. There mission statement: The mission of the Emergency Services Youth Academy is to expose children to the importance of public service.
This semester I was placed at an agency which is located on campus and is called The EMU children’s institute. This program serves the children of EMU students, staff and the surrounding community. The Children’s Institute also serves as a workshop placement site for students who are pursuing degrees in the field of early childhood education at EMU. The mission of this institute is to provide quality care and education for the younger kids and provide equally high quality educational opportunity for EMU students. The philosophy that the institute follow is that “We believe that the child defines the curriculum and that children learn best through play.”
I was fortunate to have a strong and loving family support system and a nurturing community that came together for my benefit. Whether it is through mentoring, tutoring or volunteering with youth events, I strive to provide the same support for the younger members of my family and community. I believe there is truth in the saying that children learn what they live, and I see it every time I work with young children. Therefore, it is my goal to someday be the kind of positive and influential role model for children that I was blessed with. I was raised to believe that you don’t make decisions in life based just on what you want to do, but rather on how you can help others and better the world around you.
In life, achieving goals and ambitions that set a standard for your future self is a monumental factor regarding the pathway led by your passion. For me, my passion is helping others. Every program, organization, and sport that I am involved in has opened doors allowing me to be involved with children and their success; An accomplishment in its own. One of my beloved accomplishments is being selected as a member of the Oak Hill National Honor Society. This opportunity gave me a platform to help children of Hope Haven, a school that works with the young, and adults with special needs.
I hoped to make a lasting impression on the children I encountered during my time there but what I didn’t foresee, was the lasting impression they left on me. All of that factored into not only my decision making process, but also why I firmly believe in this organization and everything it has to offer.
When I was a little girl, my mother taught me to have a caring heart for the people I love. She encouraged me to volunteer to help my grandparents around their home emptying the dishwasher, picking up brush in the yard, folding the clothes, and helping with supper and the mountain of dishes that followed. I never realized how important this act of kindness would shape my life the way it has. I have always had a great desire to work with children; through experience, I know that I have an abundance of dedication and desire to guide a child in the way a mentor would to shape their life. By volunteering for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a nonprofit organization, I will have the opportunity to pair with a child in hopes of reaching out
I think Oberon did not do a good thing when he put the love potion on Demetrius and Lysander. Oberon says he is going to put the love juice on Titania to distract her while he swipes the boy from her. Instead he sees how Demitrius is mistreating Helena and feels bad so he decides to put the juice on Demetrius so he’ll love Helena. Oberon tells Puck to put it on the “Athenian man’s” eyes.
I have had the unforgettable opportunity to personally raise $1,400 for kids to go to summer camp, whose families could not afford it otherwise. I have worked at food drives, homeless shelters, and kid’s programs in my town, in hopes to make someone’s day a little bit better and ultimately make my community stronger. These experiences shaped who I am today. While I cherish the experience I had making a difference in my own town, I am ready to grow and leave a positive impact somewhere else in the country.
I also want to do some work with at risk-youth. I feel that there are youth out there that haven’t tapped into their full potential because they don’t have a support system. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without my outstanding support system but everyone isn’t that fortunate. Many times, the kids just need someone to talk to without judgement. I want to create an open dialogue where they feel comfortable confiding in me without fear that the information would be shared with anyone
