As my final years of high school draws near many of my family members begin to bombard me dying to know what my plans are for the future. Questions such as; where I plan on going to college or what I intend on majoring in. In the summer of my sixth-grade year, I was accepted into the Bogota Police Emergency Services Youth Academy. Their extensive week-long training program is what shaped me into the woman the I have become today. There mission statement: The mission of the Emergency Services Youth Academy is to expose children to the importance of public service. It is through interactive activities, the cadets experience the rigors of life in the emergency services by using a military training model, their goal is to instill confidence, competence, integrity, and self-esteem in building the future leaders (Director’s Message 1). Founded in 1920, this institution was originally a division of Northeastern University, which shared buildings, laboratories, and faculty members at Yale University, for nearly forty years. This university main focus is to give each student a hands-on experience with a mission to meet each student's individual needs.
