The non-profit organization I volunteered for was Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School. Opened in 1970 as the second public elementary school in Palm Springs (The Village of Palm Springs, n.d.), it is located at 4200 Purdy Lane. The school does not have a mission statement, but is under the jurisdiction of the School District of Palm Beach County, which has a mission statement: “The School District of Palm Beach County is committed to providing a world-class education with excellence and equity to empower each student to reach his or her highest potential with the most effective staff to foster the knowledge, skills, and ethics required for responsible citizenship and productive careers.” (School District of Palm Beach County, n.d.)
The Early Childhood Education program at my school allows students to see what it's like to work with children before obtaining a career in the teaching field. Finally, staff seminars allow staff to see different teaching techniques which gives them a new way to teach their students that benefits their
Morenci seeks to engage young people in a high level of structured, volunteer community service projects. We believe that positive youth engagement empowers teens with the tools and skills necessary to avoid risky behaviors and to develop into healthy, thriving adults. One way I would like to improve my community through Kids at Hope is by mirroring the Kids at Hope Mission Statement. I would love to help create an atmosphere where our youth and the rest of our community inspire, empower, and transform our schools, and have our organizations create a culture where all children experience success.
According to their website, their mission statement is “The Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine exists to inspire discovery and imagination through exploration and play. The Museum & Theatre serves as an indispensable resource for families and educators, helping to create a broad community devoted to our children's development and learning” . It is easy to figure out that they are mainly serving the children and dedicated to use their programs to provide them a better opportunity of learning through the arts and science. The mix of both visual arts programs and performing arts programs is definitely one reason to keep them active and successful since families can enjoy both performances and events at the same venue. In my opinion, their services
I learn that it is most important to focus on children when in the classroom. I relax in my work by clean up in this class. Always be available to support children and maintain an overview of what is happening throughout the program. I’m aware that I can’t leave children unsupervised and can be somewhere that have one of the teacher staff can supervise me and the group. I show initiative to assist the teacher and children during activities or transitions.
During the past two years, I was given the opportunity to spend some time observing in the classrooms at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown Preschool, a Christian-based school, in the Gibsonia, PA area, the Westminster College Preschool Lab, and the Head Start program at New Castle, PA. Observing in the different classrooms displayed different ways to setup and design one classroom from another. The church preschool was different from the Head Start program, mostly due by the budget and location of each facility. Many of the church preschool classroom materials were provided by donations to the preschool. The classrooms at all three locations, had some physical similarities with each other including: many windows, child-sized tables, chairs, cubbies, and play kitchens that were child friendly, with different areas for children to play in during free time.

When the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was created it was for the mothers that they would believe to support their mission to eliminate threats that endangered children. Though many years down the road there have been many changes within The National Parent Teacher Association, that now they have entered in which school have their own PTA. For the community the PTA have been getting teachers and parents to work together for the children, supporting children in need, and for providing self-funding for the schools. Teachers and parents have been coming together since February 17, 1897, when Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson founded The National Parent Teacher Association (PTA). From then on, the PTA has valued their mission statement which states “PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children”.
Question 2). I mentioned about the English language because, I agree with the Preschool Mission Statement, that it is important to learning English to be able to use, and grow, and think on their own as well as being able to act on their own. It is very important for the students, because it set them up to achieve and succeed in the future. This can happen by: - being able to take control of their learning and move forward to become an independent learner. - helping people connect throughout the world and helping children who use English to see things from different perspectives, locally and globally.
My passion for teaching children came as a result of me having a family of educators and babysitting. Helping children and preparing them for their next level of education seemed to be interesting. I decided to attend Columbia College to study Elementary Education. While attending the “Dessert Social” sponsored by College Place United Methodist Church, the director of Children’s Garden Child Development Center spoke about opportunities for Columbia College students to help out with the Child Development Center. As the opportunity presented itself I thought it would be a great idea as I search for work pertaining to my major; so I decided to make the Children’s Garden Child Development Center my subculture.
I believe children in my care should be treated as unique individuals with amazing potentials. They are our future and I strive to help them discover, understand and express who they are and what is meaningful and interesting to them in their lives. By setting up a classroom that is interesting but also challenging I believe I allow children to follow their natural curiosity and create opportunity for finding answers to their questions. I am convinced children learn best through play time within the environment that is specially set up for a particular group of children.
My name if Rebecca Fawns, I’m the new social studies teacher at the middle school and I am so excited to be working with (student). This year will be full of some exciting adventures for your child and I cannot wait to embark on this journey with them. This year we will be learning about the geography of the western hemisphere of the world, which includes: The United States, Canada, Mexico, and the counties of Latin America. This child kept crying even after they nurses gave them medicine for pain. The nurses were concerned about the child always crying and called the social worker to come talk to the parents about the situations. I have tested my interest at Gateway Children’s Advocacy Center under Diane Rodgers. I loved volunteering at Gateway, it’s showing me the bad and the good side of social work. Gateway also helped point me in the direction of where I want to go in the social work
