When the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was created it was for the mothers that they would believe to support their mission to eliminate threats that endangered children. Though many years down the road there have been many changes within The National Parent Teacher Association, that now they have entered in which school have their own PTA. For the community the PTA have been getting teachers and parents to work together for the children, supporting children in need, and for providing self-funding for the schools. Teachers and parents have been coming together since February 17, 1897, when Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson founded The National Parent Teacher Association (PTA). From then on, the PTA has valued their mission statement which states “PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children”. They help with hunger, safe drinking water, obesity prevention, chronic conditions, substance abuse and emotional health. The PTA has become in recognition of the importance of these qualities for children growing up. With the school systems right behind parents and teachers can schools can work together to help kids in need of things they cannot normally get at home or in the environment that they are in. Because with out these basic needs children can become productive in a learning environment. North Carolina’s own PTA states “The North Carolina PTA (NCPTA) is the state’s oldest and largest volunteer organization advocating for education, health safety and success of all children and youth while building strong families and communities.” The PTA cares a lot about how the children basic needs and things they can do to help. Even by providing meals in school with the nutrients that they need and exercises they can get
