The mission of Interactive Academy is to create an inclusive learning environment that actively engages students in the learning process by fostering academic curiosity through authentic learning experiences, so that students become socially-responsible citizens.

Philosophy
The foundation of Interactive Academy’s model rests upon our core belief that every child is a unique learner who possesses the ability to reach the highest standards possible. We will employ a student-centered approach to education that allows students to take control of their paths in life by actively participating in our project-based learning curriculum that provides an academic and social curriculum that has real world application. It encourages each child’s sense of individual worth and belonging as part of a community and fosters each child’s ability to contribute as a responsible community member .

Interactive Academy Approach: Creating a safe and supportive school climate is one of our core values. We do that by building strong relationships between teachers, students and families. We go out of our way to make children and adults feel welcomed when they visit our programs. Our teachers help new children adjust to the program environment by introducing them to new friends and providing a safe space for them to learn and grow. Our staff engages in warm, friendly conversations with the children and encourages and recognizes children’s work and accomplishments.

Assessment of Child Progress- (Data Driven and High Standards)

We will support children’s learning using a variety of assessment methods, such as observations, formative and summative assessments and rating scales. Our staff will use these assessment methods and information to design goals for individual children and monitor their progress, as well as to improve the program and our teaching strategies.

DC Early Learning Standards
In addition to the NAEYC standards, Interactive Academy will utilize the DC Early Learning Standards for its Pre-K program. We chose the DC Early Learning Standards because their guiding principles, listed below, are consistent with the mission and philosophy of Interactive Academy. • All young children are capable of learning.
• All children are capable of positive developmental outcomes.
• Teachers should hold high expectations for all young children.
• Young children learn by doing. Teachers should provide opportunities for children to explore materials, to engage in physical activities, and to interact with peers and adults. A balance of child-initiated and teacher selected activities will maximize children’s learning.
• Children show individual differences in development.

We believe that attainment of the DC Early Learning Standards will position our Pre-K students to succeed in our K-5 program.
