Middle School Reaction Paper

Working with children in a middle school definitely has its variety of issues. This population is developing at a fast rate and at times do not know why they are doing what they are doing. The middle schoolers can be impulsive and hard to reach at this time of their life. As a school counselor, I would encourage positive and appropriate behaviors. The security guard of the school brought an issue to me. This is how the conservation went:
Shenika: Hey Trish. Do you have a moment? I want to bring something to your attention.
Me: Hey Shenika. Yes, sure. How can I help you?
Shenika: In between periods, I have notice an increase with inappropriate touching. The boys and girls are slapping each other butts and going into each other 's locker rooms …show more content…

Me: I think there are a series of things that we can do with this issue. I want your security team to continue to prompt the students to stop the behavior. A security guard will post up by the bathrooms and looker rooms to prevent the students going into each other’s bathrooms. The guidance department will talk with the students in question. Overall, the school will have an assembly to address this will the students and letters will be sent home to the parents about this matter. Students will have to know that disciplinary actions will be taken if caught displaying these behaviors.
Shenika: It sounds good. I just have a concern. If the security team is shorthanded, what do we do?
Me: If your team is shorthanded on any day, please let me know. I will fill in myself and I can gather other administrative staff to help if necessary. In addition, I would like to see results within three months. Therefore, I will need progress reports every three weeks to see if there is a decrease in the behaviors. I will definitely do observations to see what is going on with the students.

My objectives for this issue are to decrease this behavior within the next three months. A staff meeting will take place to inform staff of the issue and to be on the lookout for these behaviors. The security team will post up in front of bathrooms and lockers rooms to monitor who is going into these areas in between periods and during the period. They will continue to prompt the student to behavior appropriately if necessary. A school assembly will be scheduled to let the children know about the behavior contract they have to sign. Letters will be sent out to the parents regarding the contract that their child would be signing. Every student will be expected to sign a behavior contract that will speak to the school rules and behavior expectations.
