Dear USD 305 School Board, Do you want to provide students with a second lunch because they didn't get fed the appropriate amount? Do you want to hear the parents complain about their kids saying how hungry they are? Well, recently I have noticed that most of the students in the school complain about the school lunches and how they are still hungry. This issue needs to be addressed because as you get older, your body needs more nutrients. Also, this is a problem because then the school is giving out food that kids are going to waste because they don't like it. My sister, Kamyiah, was talking about the school lunch and how sometimes she doesn't eat it because it doesn't look very appetizing. If we “provide meals that are nutritious and appealing, start obtaining input from students and parents about items they would like to see served in the meals, they would most likely start eating the lunch more” according to USDA Food and Nutrition Services. Getting input from the students and their parents will help the lunch people get a better understanding of why they don't eat the lunch and why they are wanting more food. Of course, it might be more expensive, but studies show that healthier food helps higher test scores. Also, we are still growing so we need to eat more and right now we are getting fed the same amount as elementary school kids who are smaller than us so they don't eat as much as we do. When we eat more nutritious snacks and meals, it helps students get through the day better.Also I know some teachers eat the school lunch sometimes and they even say that they aren’t feeding us enough. If we aren't eating the right amount that our bodies need, we aren't going to have the right energy. It's good to stay healthy and healthier food is better for the human body.
