The list of predictions and projections made by Merrell et all (2012) pertaining to wat they believe will be important trends and developments in the near future for the field of school psychology is very concise, in-depth, and what I believe is very accurate. Upon reviewing the chapter and reflecting on my experiences as an educator, I believe the list of projections and developments is very accurate based what I have seen in previous years, the current state of public education not only in Oklahoma but across the country, but also inclusive of the troublesome financial challenges public schools are faced with. All (2012) recognizes the fact that school psychologists will be asked to do more with less. This fact alone is very prevalent in schools across Oklahoma and throughout the country. Instead of test and place roles in the past, school psychologists will be asked to take on more participatory roles in the development of interventions and strategies. This ever-changing role and increase in responsibilities has been influenced by the lack of financial support and financial stress schools experience, therefore causing the school psychologists to initiate and implement innovative services delivery approach as compared to previous approaches in the …show more content…

With increasing technology, the school psychologists have more accessibility to new information and research which enables them to implement exciting new innovations in the field of psychology while improving their abilities to provide new information pertaining to interventions and strategies for students. In addition to new technologies and tools, the continuation of new and modified federal legislation enables the school psychologist to expand their role in providing services. Such changes as RTI methods increases the role of the school psychologist, therefore enabling them to became more of an intervention strategist as compared to the test and place role they have been accustomed to in the past.
As time passes, the school psychologist will become more of a role-player for public schools, we are seeing an increasing number of students fall into the category of at-risk. This maybe the result of increasing poverty levels, mental health issues, and behavioral disorders. As a result of this as Merrell et all (2012) points out, public schools may become increasingly specialized. Throughout my experiences as an educator, this prediction rings true as we are currently seeing charter school expansion and an increasing desire for school
