Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages in school starting later. Overall, school starting later is very helpful to students. There are many reasons why school starting later will help students focus better on work. First of all, since the kids get more sleep, they won’t be so tired in the morning and will improve on work. Most kids are absent or late usually because they sleep in. School starting later can improve a student’s attendance. In the first place, students will have a lower chance of sleeping in. One reason why is because a student usually sleeps for up to 9 and a half hours, and has a curfew at about 9 or 10. Most kids wake up at around 6:00 a.m, because most schools start at about 7:30 a.m,which does not give a child the amount of sleep he or she needs. To add, attendance will improve because kids will be refreshed in the morning and won’t be so tired or lazy. With this in mind, kids will be more energized because they are actually getting the rest that they need.When Woodbury High School decided to start at 9:45 a.m, the attendance improved by 56%. Plus, kids are really tired and lazy, which is actually very dangerous, because if a teen 16 or older has to drive to school, they might be tired and get into a car accident. In fact, when Jackson Hole High School started school at 9:55 a.m, car crashes were reduced by 70%. Finally, attendance will improve if school starts later because a student won’t be so late. In regard of this, normally kids are so tired when they get up, they forget things at home because they forget, so usually, they will have to go get it which will take up time, and the student would be late for class.
