The differences I see between these two poems can be found in the speakers. One is a first person speaker and the other is observing, but both are reflecting on the transformation from youth to adulthood. In “Quinceañera” by Judith Ortiz Cofer the speaker is growing up and becoming a woman. She must put away childhood and embrace womanhood. Take the first passage, “My dolls have been put away like dead / children in a chest I will carry / with me when I marry” (lines 1-3).
Jimmy Santiago Baca’s Self Revelation Through Poetry A man with nothing to lose could be considered more dangerous than a man with everything to gain. The back and forth, up and down, side to side story of Jimmy Santiago Baca’s life shows that a man fighting for survival yearns more than a man fighting for simple possessions. Prison takes a toll on people differently, but those people have to accept the fact that jail is now their home for the time being. Some may continue along the beaten path, consuming themselves with regret, anger, or denial; but, some may seek a smoother path, digging deep and figuring out how to modify their lives for the better.
The book 102 Minutes is a story of the fight to survive. Set inside the twin towers, authors Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn tell the haunting stories of both victims and survivors of the terrorist attack known as 9/11. Describing the morning before the attack, along with the lives of the people in the twin towers, creates an emotion connection between audiences and the text. This emotional connection evokes emotions of pity for the people impacted by this tragic event. By the biographers using the rhetorical device of pathos, an empathetic relationship is formed between audiences and the individuals in the passage, which sparks feelings of anxiety to see if certain people survived the attack, which opens the minds of the audience to other information and opinions that the composers of the text may present throughout the text.
How was Lester B. Pearson a force for positive change in Canada? Lester B. Pearson; his last name sounds very familiar. Sitting Bull was a Hunkpapa Lakota chief and holy man, born in 1831 in present-day South Dakota. Son of honored Sioux warrior Returns-Again, Sitting Bull idolized his father and wanted to be exactly like him, but he struggled initially in skill; he lacked natural talent for violence, and thus was deemed “Slow” in his early years. A few years later at fourteen, he would assist in war against a rival tribe. He would be given the new name of “Tatanka-Iyotanka”; a Lakota phrase meaning “a buffalo sitting”. Growing up, Sitting Bull’s destiny was seemingly shaped by the conflicts the Native peoples were fronting in the face of white settlers moving in on their land and ways of life.

The process of canonization of the New Testament was intriguing and complex. What I have discerned is that there is controversy that surrounds the 27 books. The Catholic Church and Eastern Christian body of Christ (Church) focused on the second part of the Bible, the New Testament, (NT). The 27 books expounds on the four canonical gospels, Acts of the Apostles, 21 epistles and the Book of Revelation. I surmise that the message of the New Testament main objective is based the remission of our sins in (Matt. 26:28) and the second objective is to focus on the worship leaders and the congregations, who in terms will receive Christ, the Redeemer salvation.
Aspiring Rapper: J.Cole “I always feel like there are two key ingredients when it comes to following your dreams, one, making something happen that the average person deems difficult. Honestly, if you truly believe it, that’s step one. Step two, is, you know, the hard work that goes along with it.” Jermaine Lamarr Cole, known to many as J. (Scott 79). In this poem of "The Times They Are A-Changin '", we can pick out the Bible-based references and exam them to show that his lyrics obviously have some underlining
Everyone wants to be happy. Morals dictate on how one achieves their happiness and what that happiness means to them. Some people give the priority of their happiness over the well being of others and feel no remorse for the actions they have taken to become happy. By hurting others for one’s own gain, they become monsters rather than being civilized men. One doesn’t need to be evil to humans to be considered a monster.
Two male gendered people who share the same parents are called brothers. The word “Bro” is an abbreviation of the word brother and has many meanings to it. These days a “bro” can be a totally random person, your real biological brother, a good friend or a fraternity brother. The word bro clearly comes from the word brother, but the meaning has changed a lot during the years. In the early 1920’s the word bro meant a biological brother or a friend in a religious group(Martin).
