In 2012, CSM Schroeder spoke to Cadets at the Army Cadet Command George C. Marshall Awards and Leadership Seminar. He told them to “Know what your people are capable of and use them.” This is true for NCOs as well. “When the Army makes changes, I think a lot of time we over correct.” (S. Seeing CSM Schroeder command, the admirations and respect of my battle buddies by shear presence made me aspire to be like him. I wanted to captivate Soldiers with my words and enthusiasm as he did. The time he took to speak to us as professionals about the being “the Backbone of the Army” inspired me to want to better myself as a Non-Commissioned Officer. From learning regulations to sitting down with a Soldier that sought out my counsel. I grew from my inexperience to becoming a dependable and reliable NCO. I gained opportunities and more responsibility. Now as Staff Sergeant ready to become a Sergeant First Class, I am passing one what I have learned to me to my Soldiers, giving to the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps.
My Philosophy
I came up under a variety of NCOs and I took something away from all of them. I will know who my Soldiers are and understand what their goals are. I will understand what my Soldiers want to do and the reasons they want to do it. I will provide them different ideas and thoughts to show them that I am committed to seeing them succeed in the military. I will lead them by example and by always being out front. Ensuring that I am accessible to them and letting them know that I am here for them…good, bad, or indifferent.
