Reading the article, “Screen Addiction Is Taking a Toll on Children”, by Jane E. Brody, has me realizing that this all makes sense. It has me stepping back and looking at life, thinking about the kids and the teens nowadays, compared to before. Now I often compare myself to my brothers they’re about five to eight years younger than me, and when I was their age, and at that time I didn’t have so much compared to what they had. And now there are kids with the latest iPhone, and video games. It is easy for kids to now access these devices. Parents also play a huge part in this; mostly they’re the reason why it is just so easy for them to get it. These children aren’t living their childhood the way I think a child should. Growing up with little siblings and cousins, I’ve noticed as well as Brody noted that kids will be in their parent’s way to do what they need to accomplish, and to get their children out of their way, they simply give them their device, while the parent goes off into their peace since they think they have controlled the situation. This isn’t correct discipline, and by giving the child what they want they will get used to it, and will keep expecting this from the parent. Seeing children throw tantrums in stores because they want a certain toy and won’t get it, and the parent being embarrassed by the scene they will give in and get it for them. The child will grow up getting whatever they want by throwing their tantrums, misbehaving, all because the parent chose the easy way out and giving in to what the child wants. Adding to this, not only will it be misbehaving to their parents, but from watching things online, playing their video games, these kids will pick up what they see and try to reenact it. A lot of the times it maybe be violent media that they see, and want to go off and do it themselves, thinking because it’s in their game think it will be okay for them to do, as if they’re forgetting exactly the difference between reality and life in the media world, which completely different, and yet there are some who seem to not even understand
