Despite being the editor for our client project, I had involvement throughout all stages of the production process; and in this report I will try and evenly discuss both my unique role as well as my other involvements and how they came together to teach me lessons and introduced me to new experiences. Preparing me for a career in the professional corporate video industry. Auteur theory is an important mode of film criticism that indicates the extent of the director’s involvement in the final output of the film. As it has been previously mentioned, Spike Lee’s films express certain notions about race that emerge from his personal viewpoint as well as from his political and aesthetic beliefs. The focal point of this chapter is the auteur theory and its relativity to Spike Lee. In order to prove the connection between the theory and his works, it is necessary to refer to Lee’s biography, since both his background and distinguishable personality have contributed to his technical skills as well as to his unique style as a film director. The particular chapter will also include the synopsis as well as the technical analysis of each film correspondingly.
“The most amazing thing for me is that every single person who sees a movie, not necessarily one of my movies, brings a whole set of unique experiences. Now, through careful manipulation and good storytelling, you can get everybody to clap at the same time, to hopefully laugh at the same time, and to be afraid at the same time” (“Steven Spielberg Quotes”). As the inspiration for how many films are produced, Steven Spielberg is a director, producer, and writer. Having won 3 Academy Awards, several of his movies have set box office records, including Jaws and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. Steven Spielberg revolutionized the film industry through unique camera work and new subject matters in movies.
During the Great Depression era, an innumerable amount of Americans felt the effects of both ego death and loss of autonomy. Because the 1930s took so much away from people, including their pride and humanity, the majority felt humiliated by events out of their control. After the start of the Depression, it became almost impossible to find employment, and nearly all available jobs paid so low that people refused to take them. This resulted in people feeling ashamed of themselves. Consequently the American people viewed this loss of power, control, and pride as a monster and projected it into movies such as White Zombie.
: For my presentation I have chosen to examine Steven Spielberg and what stylistic features he uses to make himself considered as an auteur. An auteur is a director that has a unique style in filming and has complete control of the production process of the film. The three films that I have chosen to focus on are E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), A.I. Artificial Intelligence(2001) and Close Encounters (1977). These are three of Steven Spielberg's most known films.

The second Brett determined to exact revenge on Elena for her perceived rejection, there she went with her cute expressions and sarcastic teasing, almost eliciting a full blown-laugh. A second before, his heart had lurched when he sensed a vulnerability in her eyes and the possibility she'd been about to sing a different tune. However, it'd quickly faded, if it'd ever existed at all. "Of course, I won't make it too soon." Thankfully, he refrained from showing his true amusement, with only the beginnings of a smile tugging at his lips, as he piled their plates in the sink. "
Due to her book "Hollywood: The Dream Factory. An Anthropologist Looks at the Movie Makers" Hortense Powdermaker is regarded as one of the pioneers of ethnography. Published in 1951 by Secker & Warburg in London, Powdermaker here aims to demystify the affect of movies on the audience and establishes the hypothesis "that the social system in which they are made significantly influences their content and meaning" (Powdermaker, 1951, p.3). After living in Hollywood for one year she concludes that the internal structures resemble those of a totalitarian system in which the struggle between business and art is reflected in the meaning of its movies. It suggests that the values of studio bosses and producers dominate while the artistic values of directors and writers are strongly restricted.
Why did the industrial revolution start in England ? Many things that contributed to the start of the Industrial Revolution in Britain , but their geographic luck, the enlightenment period, and the population growth where the most significant. The growth of the population was one of the things that sparked the industrial revolution in Britain. Many people began working “for wages in the new city, and eventually increased demand for products such as clothing”. Script vs. Film The script developed by Davis Show is easy-to-understand and imaginative enough to build bright pictures of the events. The script is well-written as it includes such essential constitutes as detailed descriptions of the scenes, consistency of actions with the value of each scene for the ongoing events, and the vision of how those scenes must be shot along with the camera positioning and movements. Moreover, he provides special notes for actors to reach the extent of feeling the role rather than just understanding or remembering it.
Film and written literature have often gone hand in hand. Written literature has often served as an inspiration for film. Directors often make movie adaptations of books and people who have read the book will often criticize the movie for lacking important detail covered in the book. Film, depending on many factors can often be better than the book, or at least do it justice. Since the conception of film many have argued that written literature will be obsolete.
Cinematography is a combination of techniques used to describe the emotions and mood in films. Cinematography includes camera shots, angles and lighting. A Beautiful Mind and The King’s Speech are biotic films this depicts the life of an important historical person. A Beautiful Mind emphasizes the inner struggles of a man who has schizophrenia.
When looking at films you have to look at every aspect of the film. When it comes to most people they will watch the film and not notice little details such as framing and editing. Now being an editor my self, this is one issue that bothers me with casual viewership of movies or any other types of film. Thats when they think the editing was just done and that it takes not effort and people think that the clips are just put together. I can safely say that this is 200% false and that being an editor takes a ton of thought and process going into how a clip is placed, how much time before cutting it or anything along those lines.
“Being an atheist means coming to grip with reality. A meaningless universe does not mean we live our lives without purpose. The pointlessness of life is not a thing to be overcome, it is to be celebrated.” This is the exact quote that I saw while scrolling through Instagram, from an atheist friend. “When you start to think in universal time spans, your perception of humanity must necessarily change.
