When looking at the video “Second Grade Students Misbehaving in Reading Group”, a girl is reading a group a book. While she is reading multiple students are acting out. They are moving in their chairs, leaning on the table, banging on the table, tipping in their chairs, making noise, and disrupting the reader. They children are doing everything but listening to the reader. When looking at this scene the children are distracted by what is around them and what they have, specifically the chairs and table they are sitting around. This problem resolves around the children but the adult in the situation could part of the problem as well. By changing the situation and the tools that the children are given when the reading group is happening. Also, …show more content…
I would ask them to tell me what proper way was to sit during reading group. Now they would need some assistance to make sure they wouldn’t say things such bang on the table or tip our chairs. Hopefully, the students would create a list of behaviors such as sit still and quiet, keep our hands to ourselves, pay attention to the reader, and other proper reading group behaviors. I would then state a limit to the students by saying something like “so for our next reading group let’s follow this list.” I would post the list somewhere in the classroom to serve as a reminder for the students. I would then refer to this list when we are getting into reading groups and as time progress I would stop reminding my students about the list in hopes that they would continue to practice the good reading strategies that are on our list. On other change I would do in this situation would be to change the physical setting. I would have the students sit on the floor. And put the reader at the front of the group in a chair. This way the students are on a different level than the reader. Doing this would hopefully, eliminate some of the physical distractions and allow the students to pay more attention to the reader. Once the students are in their groups hopefully things go successfully. As I said if they are not successful I would wean the students of off the list. I would keep it posted as a reminder for the students this way if they students happen to act out during groups, I would be able to say something such as let’s remember our List of good behaviors for reading
