Secondary Prevention

Primary prevention is education, consultation, or crisis prevention. The purpose is to prevent people from starting a disorder in the first place. They are usually used for people who are identified as at-risk for negative situations, or reactions. Examples would be programs like Planned Parenthood, or Midnight Hoops. Secondary prevention is that which is to minimize impacts by people already affected by certain disorders. Examples of secondary prevention would be employee assistance hotlines at work, and walk-in clinics. Tertiary prevention is meant to control the long-term effects, and consequences of people getting over mental health disorders. Examples of this would be Alcoholics Anonymous, or other assertive community treatments.
