This novel highlights the fact of the injustices people of color are faced with in everyday life. In the introduction of this book, Michelle Alexander highlights the criminal justice system and how rather than identifying people by their race, people of color are labeled as criminals. I believe the criminal justice system, racial caste, ideology, and global examples of racial caste are all connected to racial inequality. I feel that the race and criminal justice system are connected on the basis that people of color are seen as unequal when compared to Caucasians. In the reading the author provides good examples of how officers are well trained at defending against claims of racial bias in policing.

Before taking this ethics course, I was really questioning if this course would benefit me as a future healthcare professional or make me a better person. Throughout this semester, I have learned about many different philosophers. Some philosophers, I knew very little about and some that I have never heard of before. After reading and learning about the many philosophers, the three philosophers that I felt contributed to me becoming an educated citizen were Aristotle, John Stuart Mills, and Sarcrates. Aristotle’s views help me become an effective communicator in my personal life as well as a future healthcare professional due to his ethos, pathos, and logos logic.
Students in the criminal justice department are taught that our main objective in the justice system and our careers is to serve and also protect those involved in our community. For as long as I can remember, my goal in life has been to provide service by protecting and serving those who are close to me. Abstract The Uniform Crime Report Program is a national program set to voluntarily report a crime to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI recognized a need for national crime statistics to do its job more effectively (“About the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program,” n.d.). According to James Inciardi, it was recognized that the UCR had problems in 1978 as they were “incomplete and structurally biased” which made crimes into myths instead of reality (Inciardi, 1978, pg. 3). The statistics are submitted by cities, counties, and states nationwide.

One of the most important actions that a student can take, is to be honest, and self-reflective, about the level of understanding achieved after completing any course within his/her education career. From my personal view, I feel that this class provided me with a great introduction to the MHA program, and is setting me up for successful in this educational program; but with that being said I would not pretend that I was able to assimilate every concept that was presented in this course, I would definitely need to continue to review the material in this course and on the MHA program overall, so that I could be a knowledgeable, and effective Health Care Manager. When it comes to my ability to discuss the different learning outcomes, I have to say that I definitely acquired a much deeper understanding of the material presented in this course. Before choosing criminal justice as my major, I wanted to be an art major. The dream was to work as a comic book artist, but I soon realized that it was virtually impossible for me to achieve that dream. Eventually, I became interested in the criminal justice system and all of the aspects that exist in the system, specifically the court aspect. When I told my family that I wanted to be a criminal justice major, my father told me outright that I could not be a police officer or work in corrections, so law school was the only option, but I morphed that expectation into my own with the desire to become a civil rights attorney. Moreover, I have always been interested in politics and political movements that involved civil rights and human rights.

This year has been a difficult year for the criminal justice system of Texas. From the multiple police brutality incidents to people dying police custody that shouldn’t. With the one of the highest percentage of its citizens incarcerated, we can start to see why people feel like the Texas Criminal Justice system has failed them. The plea bargain is just one example that the people feel like the justice system has failed them. I personally feel that even with all of Texas Criminal Justice system’s faults, I feel like Texans can come together to make the necessary changes to make better adapted to the newer generations morals.
There are three components that make up the criminal justice system – the police, courts, and correctional facilities – they all work together in order to protect individuals and their rights as a citizen of society to live without the fear of becoming the victim of a crime. Crime, simply put is when a person violates criminal law; the criminal justice system is society’s way of implementing social control. When all three components of the criminal justice work together, it functions almost perfectly. For a person to enter the criminal justice system, the process must begin with the law enforcement.
Over the past three and a half years I have spent my life studying in school. I have studied for hours and hours about the field of criminal justice; the reason it exists, its history and development, theories that are used to explain topics in criminal justice, and cases that have been monumental in changing the way that criminal justice works. While all of these are great to learn about the field of criminal justice itself cannot be learned from reading textbooks and memorizing theories. This is why I am interested in an internship with the Griffin Police Department. I want to learn how the criminal justice system is in action, how things actually play out outside of the scholastic setting.
What is sociology? Before taking this class, I honestly had a very limited understanding of what sociology meant. However, because of the great diversity of people living in America, I have now realized how viewing the world with a sociological perspective can help me grasp the reality of many beliefs and practices in society today.
