Depression is a mood disorder that can range from mild or extremely serious, signs like eating disorder, excessive drinking, and withdrawal from society, may be red flags signaling a person is in need of an intervention. In most cases,depression can seem dormant without acknowledging the symptoms and understanding the source.With the help of the articles, I have gained a greater understanding of what exactly depression is and the signs of which to be cautious of. Postnatal depression is when new mothers experience a period of sadness and irritability. A new mother suffering from this type of depression may sometimes refuse to have little to no contact with the child. Most of the time postnatal depression can go unnoticed, and cause irreparable damage to both the mother and child. For instance,my friend lost her mother tragically in a motor accident, prior to having her first baby this event triggered my friend to slip into a state of despair. After the baby was born, she became withdrawn and began to acquire hate for her new born. Most times depression can exhibit in different ways depending on the person and trauma. Therefore to understand and better help a person suffering from depression, you have to look past the outermost facade. We live in a world where everyone is too busy to step out of their comfort zone and help a friend in need, we trade friends and family for economic pleasures. It’s important to care and check on loved ones, because sometimes people undergo overwhelming experiences.
