How American football promotes sexism in our modern society
By Mallory Price You hit like a girl. This statement is used to call out one for their un-athletic abilities. “Women, being the weaker sex summarises what gender discrimination in sports is. Dictionary-wise, it is the discrimination of one’s athletic abilities based on their gender”(“Gender Discrimination”). Women are viewed as a less dominant sex especially in American football till this day. American football promotes sexism in our modern society because people create stereotypes for women that can hurt the development of society, and when they are provided the chance to play for the big leagues, they aren't getting enough media coverage or support to acknowledge the large steps …show more content…

“Even though women’s participation has grown over the years, underlying gender biases are still present in many aspects of sport.” (Saxena) I really want to focus on the gender bias of paychecks and profit income. “Wage gap is one of the most overt areas of prejudice, as women remain far behind men when it comes to being paid in sports.” (Saxena) Women fight their own battles to be accepted and acknowledged as the hard working women they are but even then there still lie prominent issues such as the wages they are earning. Women, no matter the effort, are being paid next to nothing in comparison to male athletes. A key example of this is that the most equivalent female league right now, the WFA (Women's Football Association), is not paid to play at all. We as a society need to be more aware of the little things, because as shown those little things can turn out to be a pretty big deal for someone else.

In conclusion, American football still to this day is a very biased sport that does promote sexism in our communities. It does this through the main factors of gender stereotypes, social media and internet platform coverage, and last but not least the wage gap between the 2 different sexs’.
