Sexual Awakening The play, Spring Awakening was written by Steven Sater and directed by Gary Grant. The central theme of the play is the struggle of adolescence during a time of a sexual moral repression in Victorian Germany. Most of the play is very emotionally moving but some specific scenes that stuck out to me was when Moritz committed suicide and was carried out by fellow class mates for his funeral. Another scene that I found very emotional was when it was discovered that Martha was abused by her father and she and Ilse sang together about their abuse. The central theme of the play was reinforced by the production elements used throughout the entire show. He also went against his teacher in school and was just very rebellious. I am a very rebellious person, although I may not do the exact same thing as him, I do things that aren’t allowed. I also am very opinionated and speak my mind when I am with adults. He was a very upbeat and happy person and I find myself to be very happy and usually upbeat. The role I could not see myself playing would have to be Hanschen. He was very aggressive and forceful about all the things he did. He pushed himself onto Ernst, and seemed that he was still very confused with his sexuality. I am just not a forceful person and when it comes to relationships I let the other person come onto me. I couldn’t see myself playing the forceful character. Spring Awakening, was a really amazing play and I would highly recommend it to others. The play kept my attention the whole time and kept me at the edge of my seat. All the characters did a great job with the dancing and singing and making it all come together. I would defiantly go see this play
