Our Town: Stage Performance Vs. Written Play

Throughout most written plays, they normally have films or stage performances. Usually the two are very different from each other. Many of the times the scenes are not exactly the same in films. In Our Town the stage performance is very similar to the written play. There are more comparisons than differences between the performance and written play. There are a few differences with the written play and the stage performance. The differences are minor and did not change the overall play. There were no major changes at all so the stage performance is true to the text. The characters were played very well and played the way the book described them. Webb is persuading Emily that she is marrying a fine young man he is suppose to have his arm around her, but Mr. Webb is holding Emily’s hand. Soon after that while the stage manager is marrying George and Emily, Mrs. Soames is to turn to her neighbors and talk about how she loves beautiful weddings. In the performance, she turns to the audience in the middle of the aisle and tells the audience about how beautiful the wedding is. In the very beginning of Act III, there are chairs located on the left side of the stage that represent graves. In the written play the second row contains Mrs. Soames with others that are not named. In the stage performance, Wally Webb is in the second row. In the written play Wally is suppose to be in the third row of the graves. The third row has people who we do not know the names of. Mrs. Gibbs and Simon Stimson are both in the first row in the written play and the stage performance. After Emily goes back in time to relive a moment, she tells Simon Stimson that she should have listened. When Simon is to reply back to Emily, he turns his head while he is speaking. In the beginning of this act the people in the graves are not to turn their heads at all.He also shows some emotion when he is talking and they are to sound lugubriousness.
