Every college student should be given the security of learning in an environment that is free from fear, yet the rise of sexual violence on college campuses has shown that this a safe learning environment does not seem possible. Sexual violence is defined as “Any sexual act, attempt to obtain a sexual act, unwanted sexual comments or advances, or acts to traffic, or otherwise directed, against a person’s sexuality using coercion, by any person regardless of their relationship to the victim, in any setting, including but not limited to home and work” (World Health Initiative [WHO], 2014, p.149). This purpose of this study, in response to the lack of research on the topic of sexual assault, is to evaluate what types of programs are in place that are the most effective in helping prevent sexual assault against college aged women aged 18-24. The first objective of this study is to determine which behaviors, models, or practices best prevent and diminish a woman’s chance of sexual assault. The second is to assess if certain demographics are more susceptible to being sexually assaulted and if so, how to address this population within a program.
