Al Shabaab is a militant organization that was formed in December 2006. The militant group started out as a military wing for the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) before separating into their on organization in December 2006.

III. Objectives and Goals:
The militant groups main mission is to bring down the Somalian Government and establish an Islamic emirate based on the organizations interpretation of Shariah Law.

IV. Country Support:
Al Shabaab does not have the support of Somalia’s Government. Al Shabaab has established its on Government and has been attempting to win popularity among the Somalian people. Al Shabaab has multiple African and Middle Eastern countries providing support to their cause. Eritrea, Djibouti, Iran, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Hezbollah in Lebanon have been accused of providing logistical support to Al Shabaab.

A. Conditions: The United Nations has classified Somalia as a country that is least developed country. The economy of Somalia is informal and is based off of livestock, remittance/money transfer companies, and telecommunications.

A. Conditions: The population in Somalia is approximately 11,031,386. More than half of Somalia’s population is 25 years of age or younger. The languages spoken in Somalia are Somali, Arabic, Italian, and English. Somali and Arabic are the official languages according to the 2012 Transitional Federal Charter. The ethnic groups in Somalia are Somali 85 percent, Bantu and other non-Somali 15 percent. The non-Somali includes approximately 30,000 Arabs. The official religion in Somalia is Sunni Muslim. Only 37.8 percent of Somalia’s population is literate.
