It is my hope to become a great engineer one day. Because of my career choice to become an Engineer, I felt Shirley Jackson has been, and is continuing to be a huge inspiration to me. We often dwell on past famous people who are long gone, but I chose Shirley Ann Jackson to share as the African American female that has, and continues to inspire me. I am inspired by an African-American female by the name of Shirley Jackson. Therefore, it was essential for me to examine her early life and schooling, career, honors and distinctions, and personal life. Even after my mother’s passing, my father has carried on that tradition as Jackson’s father did. Tabor (5) mentioned that Jackson attended Roosevelt High School. Jackson did very well in her math and science classes. She was valedictorian of her graduating class in 1964. In comparison, I have also taken many accelerated classes while attending Canton High School. I am very inspired by the fact that in following in her footsteps, I will be attending college as well. I will begin my college career at Hinds Community College, and then transfer to Mississippi State University to complete my bachelor’s degree in Engineering. I am in great hopes that this will allow me to be as successful as Shirley Jackson. Ovulate (25) mentioned that while earning her bachelor's degree at MIT, she wrote her thesis on solid-state physics. Jackson stayed on at MIT to work on her doctorate. I also, like her, hope to go on to complete my doctorate. She completed her doctorate in 1973, becoming the first African-American woman to earn a
