I interviewed Shirley Jordan, she works as a vocational rehabilitation specialist for people that have gotten out of prison. She also helps counsel people still in the prison system. Mrs. Jordan considers herself to have expertise in helping others but would not refer to herself as an expert because she is always learning new ways how to relate to people. I asked her did she think that this is what she would doing when she was younger. Mrs. Jordan replied that it hard for to realize herself in the current job she is in now because she was not always about trying to help others. I asked her how long it took her to become a rehabilitation specialist. She said it took ten years because she had to go back to obtain her master’s degree in rehabilitation …show more content…

Jordan about her early life and if she had envisioned herself helping people in prison when she was older. She professed to me that she was a “wild child” growing up and very independent. The neighborhood she grew up in was rough and she experienced many things such as shootings and people taking drugs. I asked her what she was like when she was younger, personality wise, Mrs. Jordan said that she used to be more impatient with people. As she got older, she realized how much it wasted energy and didn’t improve the situation in most cases. She said having to take care of children and a husband required patience which helped her when dealing with clients. The Interview was surprising to me because even though I had known Mrs. Shirley Jordan for a few years she seemed to really open up about personal details which indicated that we had a much deeper connection than I had initially thought. I had contacted Shirley Jordan in advance and conducted the interview at her church which is called Second Chance Ministries. This organization helps people that are in the prison system with emotional and moral support/encouragement. They also work with other organizations to help provide people that are getting out of prison with job
