The day was tense long before the sun rose. There was a certain feeling in the air that you got when something is about to go wrong. My old friend Mercutio and I were at the beach. He was as jubilant as ever, talking and laughing with others. I, on the other hand, was uneasy. The tension in the air was palpable, but Mercutio was foolishly unaware.
As the waves crashed on the beach, I said, “Good Mercutio, we must leave now to avoid conflict. The Capulets are abroad, and if they find us, blood will be spilled. Our blood!” “Nonsense Benvolio! There are none of these marauders of which you speak in sight! Be at ease, for we are surrounded only by friends!” said Mercutio. “And if they do show?” I asked. “Then we will pull our swords and fight those dogs off!” Mercutio exclaimed. No sooner had he said that then the Capulets showed up.
As the three Capulets came closer, I could recognize Tybalt and his companions. I tried to pull Mercutio away, but he pushed me out of his way and walked forward to confront them. As words were exchanged, both Mercutio and Tybalt’s voices grew louder and louder. I ran over to Mercutio and said, “This is what we were trying to avoid!
