Scarletta stood over the body of Emule. Several more bodies were on the ground, some of the bodies were unconscious and some were dead with blood pooling around them.3 She sheathed her sword. Only a few days ago Scarletta had been the perfect model of a socially acceptable woman. Now she stood over dead bodies, bodies she put there Scarletta had been away at the market when her father was taken. She made it into the house before she realized things were amiss. The furniture, paintings, and clothing was thrown around the room as if the god Poseidon sent an earthquake to punish them. Then Scarletta saw the note. “Rise child, I have a gift for you.” The unworldly woman drew a sword from thin air. The blade was as clear as a mirror. “This may be useful on your quest.” Scarletta expressed her thanks. “Goddess Athena, may I ask why you are helping me?” “Your father is an old friend. I’ve been keeping an eye on his daughter and she seems promising.” Athena disappeared. The journey to Emule’s was only a few days. On the first day she already met trouble. A gang of thieves crossed her way on the road. Being a young, innocent girl they thought she was an easy target. She played helpless as they went around to pillage through her horse’s saddle bags. She had moved to the opposite side of the horse. She drew her sword as quietly as she could. When the gang came back around with her belongings they saw her in a fight stance. “What are you girl, an Amazon? She traveled through a village at noon to get to Emule’s home. The village had a market much like her own, and berries much like the deadly ones she carried. She bought the similar berries and a small wooden bowl to carry them in. A plan formed in her head as she made her way to the large stone entry way. A servant child met Scarletta. It seem as though Emule had been waiting for her arrival. Scarletta bowed in respect and offered him the bowl of berries. He accepted graciously an ate as she pleaded for the return of her father. He died mid laugh. Scarletta returned to the moment and went off in search of her father. She found him chained up. With a well placed blow of her sword he was free. Scarletta and her father fled the house but not before taking back their money. They returned to their small home three days later. Her father was proud of her new found abilities and bought a sword to practice with her.2 They were practicing in front of their house when Athena appeared. Scarletta dropped to her knees again.
