1. Some of the turning point in Rodriguez essay is the change of his mindset. His academic life made him learn about the human being, which made him be less proud of his parents. Generally, Mexican families have a strong foundation in unity. But Rodriguez has to choose between his family and his academic life. Rodriguez was forced to take the values that he learned from his family and replace them with those he learned at school. Rodriguez’s school values becomes his everyday life. After focusing more on the academic knowledge, Rodriguez seem to learn that, focusing much on the education can makes ones forget about the best things they have outside of the academic environment. I find two insights very interesting in Rodriguez’s essay. Firstly, in the midst of preparing dinner, Rodriguez stated that, his mother come up and ask him to tell her some about the book that he is reading [21.] I find this interesting because the act of the author’s mother can be cited as a support. Even though his mother have a lack of education, by trying to explain and tell his mother about the book that he his reading, Rodriguez will have more understandings of the book. But the acts of Rodriguez’s mother do not seem as support for the author, because he barely answers to his mother’s question. Secondly, Rodriguez to see his parents beings the same as his teacher’s. The author was less proud of his parents because of their lacks of education. Rodriguez finally has a chance to hear the conversation of two different categories of people that he has always compared: his parents and his teacher [22.] I find that interesting because Rodriguez described his feeling to the reader and he had more chance to compare two different categories of being. In Rodriguez’s essay’s titled “Scholarship boy” the writer exhibits academic habits of mind. Firstly, Rodriguez acquired some professionalism that makes him feel superior to his parents. His way to covers with parents changed because of his academic knowledge. Secondly, Rodriguez has always been asked about how he manages his success; but he always had a hard time to explain his success management. The author finally has an answer for his success management “What I am about to say has taken me more than twenty years to admit it: A primary reason for my success … schooling was changing me and separating me from the life I enjoyed before become student [17.] The author also spends his time valuing his books than his
