“Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley should be banned for instructional purposes because of its seeming glorification of drugs, racism, sexualization, and vulgarity. Young audiences do not need to be exposed to such things at such a vulnerable age in their life. “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley, has many great things but along with the great, it has a group of things children should not be exposed to until they seek it out and want to. One main example of this would be the following quote. “We had Elementary Sex for the first forty minutes," she answered. "But now it's switched over to Elementary Class Consciousness." The Director walked slowly down the long line of cots. Rosy and relaxed with sleep, eighty little boys and girls lay softly breathing. (2.71-2)” This text from the book is giving off the notion of sexed-up little kids. It sexualizes kids at such young ages making it seem okay and as if it is a good thing. Banning this book Is justified by the fact that children mature at different rates. They also bring different life experiences to their reading. Reading such graphic scenes in books can be very influential to young and impressionable Teen brains. “The Catcher In the Rye” was an inspiration for assassination attempts and violent acts. Robert John Bardo was carrying the book when he murdered Rebecca Schaeffer. Mark David Chapman, the man who shot John Lennon, Hinckley, Jr. assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan. All in connection to the book. This book caused disillusionment among teenagers and people who read it and the vulgarity of its contents.
