Is Chocolate Milk Good for You?
I believe chocolate milk should be served in schools. Chocolate milk doesn’t have that much sugar. Also, kids like the drink and still get the healthy dose of nutrients. In the next couple of paragraphs you will find out why I think that chocolate milk should remain in the cafeteria.
I think chocolate milk should be served in schools because the added sugar is less than most other drinks. According to Ms. Dobbins, a nutritionist who analyzed a sports drink, a cola, and a chocolate milk, the sports drink had 3 ½ teaspoons of added sugar per serving, the cola had 9 teaspoons of sugar and the chocolate milk only had 3 teaspoons of sugar. Chocolate milk is a good way to get your nutrient needs and not feel like your parents are forcing you to eat or drink something that you don’t like. In Thompon Brook School’s cafeteria they serve on average 80 chocolate milks and 30 white milks. These kids get good nutrients and like the drink. It is a good way to take white milk that kids don’t like and make it into a delicious drink that kids do like. If you take chocolate milk away then kids might not even drink any milk at all so they wouldn’t be getting any good nutrients from milk. James Rippe a famous doctor says, “There are no studies of chocolate milk drinkers having any connection to obesity. There are studies that chocolate milk drinkers do get a healthy dose of potassium and Vitamin D.” This proves that chocolate milk drinkers are just as healthy as non-chocolate milk drinkers and also think that it tastes good. Even though they say you can also get our nutrient needs in beans or kale, kids like chocolate milk better. So, in the end the kids who drink chocolate milk like the drink, meet nutrient needs, and are not heavier than non-chocolate milk
