Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. Columbus was an explorer that had his heart set on searching for the americas. So much that did so, which led to him having his own name on various school, memorials, and his very own day. Many people say that he should not his own day because was rude to the natives on the islands he found. Columbus should have his own day because he was not only an explorer, he had many achievements, and there are many events in history that the U.S. is not happy about.

In the period of time where Columbus lived in he had many every day challenges. Simply with his faith and with being a powerful leader. When he traveled on his boats the crew could have started a mutiny, but no because he was too strong of a leader. His faith, in a a time many religion were brought into the world he was a faithful catholic. He stood by his religion threw thick and thin. Yes, everyone knows his best accomplishment was finding the americas, but he was able to write this down and say this is his discovery, a whole new world. Columbus explains, “On the 33rd day after I departed from Cadiz, Spain I came to the Indian Sea. Here I found many islands inhabited by more men than I could count.” Finding new lands when he was in look for another is insane, and not just one piece of land but multiples. Islands with more men than anyone could count, plus Columbus was known to be smart so if he could not count then no one would able to. Finding, then naming the islands whatever you want and truly calling this your own discovery is preposterous
