Many people want to debate about politics, what sports team is better, some people even debate over silly things such as what shows are better. One topic that really deserves a discussion is the legal drinking age. What should the legal drinking age be? I believe the legal drinking age should be eighteen years of age. Why should it be? After all, at eighteen aren’t you responsible for your own actions? You are free to live on your own and to support your family if you have one. You’re even given the choice to chose who the leader of our country will be. That seems to hold more maturity than buying alcohol. At eighteen years old you are legally considered to be an adult. You can make your own choices at age eighteen so why should the choice of buying alcohol or not buying it be one too? After all, John McCardell says, “Seventy-five percent of high school seniors, 60 percent of high school sophomores, and 40 percent of eighth graders have consumed alcohol.” Many young adults between eighteen and twenty-one get arrested for underage drinking every year. Also, tons of countries like: Albania, Armenia, Fiji, Ghana, Morocco, Vietnam, Barbados, Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Israel, Kenya, Mexico, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and South Korea all allow drinking under the age or twenty-one. Some of the countries listed above even allow drinking at the age of sixteen. You could always do a trial on it and see if the age groups of eighteen to twenty year olds are mature about the situation or if they abuse the power of alcohol. Really, what do you have to lose? Why not just go ahead and lower the legal drinking
