Some statistics show that two-thirds of teen passenger deaths are in vehicles driven by other teenagers. This can be very dangerous and scary. That is why I believe that the driving age should be raised to 18, because of the brain’s maturity, inconvenience, and they are still kids.

The 16 year old’s brain is much less developed compared to one that belongs to a 18 year old. In page 251 in the debate written by Davis, it said “The NIH brain research suggests that the problem is human biology. A crucial part of the teen’s brain—the area that peers ahead and considers consequences—remains undeveloped.” This shows that a teen’s brain is scientifically undeveloped and doesn’t think ahead or make as wise decisions as a 18 year old or older.

A 16 year old wanting and car and driving can still be an inconvenience to the parents. If they did have the freedom and a car, they have more impulsive behavior. As it said in the text by Davis on page 251, “‘It all comes down to impulse control,’ Giedd says. ‘The brain is changing a lot longer than we used to think. And that part of the brain involved in decision-making and controlling impulses is among the latest to come on board.’” This shows that they are still dependant on their parents to assist them and help fix their wrong decisions, but if they are on the road impulsive behavior isn’t a good or wanted
