Having access to a cafeteria would limit the amount of students that leave campus for lunch. Students are known to leave
As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.
Another issue that deeply affects students is the lack of time to eat. All three thousand students are fed at once, but the lunch period only lasts for thirty minutes. By the time students are actually able to sit down with their food, most of the period has already flown by. As one teacher points out: “The line for kids to get their food is very long... They get 10 minutes probably to eat their meals” (Kozol 717).
Students Should Have Open Campus Lunch Periods Pinterest states, “Lunch hour is the best hour of the day.” Some students may not enjoy school lunches. Going off campus can open up more choices. Eating a good lunch can help students pay attention in school. I believe that students should have open campus lunches.
Introduction The Aztec civilization was a Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico from the 14th to the 16th century. They were known for their advanced agricultural practices, complex social structure, and intricate religious beliefs. The Aztecs also built impressive cities, such as Tenochtitlan, which was one of the largest cities in the world at the time. It would be important to note that the Aztecs' agricultural development and use of chinampas were crucial to their success and expansion as a civilization. With the use of this innovative technique, they were able to sustain a large population and support their growing empire.
Every student at George Mason was a freshman once too and everyone knows how scary change can be. Therefore, these factions that make up the school should not be as segregated as they are. There is a fine line between upholding the traditional social classes of high school and being just plain ridiculous. For example, around the beginning of the school year, some sophomores were sitting in the “junior alcove” and caused the juniors an immense amount of unneeded frustration. There was talk of hating the sophomores and even starting a twitter war.
Allowing the students open campus could in fact give them a chance to go home, and take drugs, but the truth is half of the students most likely would not spend their time that way (Merino 88). Some schools believe that they should not allow open campus due to them being about five miles at least away from the nearest restaurant, being further away from a restaurant means that students can become more experienced at driving (Schanding). There are many schools that believe that if they allow open campus their students will go home and sneak into their parents alcohol cabinet, but teachers and parents are going to have to allow some freedom or else the students would not be able to prove/ gain trust (Saslow). “Safety is of the utmost important to us, so the option to leave was removed at the Glen Burnie High School”, but most kids would most likely try to stay safe (Nwabuzo). Parents who are at work would probably like to know that their kids are safe and at school not out getting food or at home doing bad actions, although most kids are not as bad as most parents or teachers think (Saslow).
Open campus at lunch time is a huge advantage for high school students, and is a great punishment as well. The student's responsibility to come back to school on time will have consequences if students don't follow it. This will help them realize that the word is run by rules and if people don't follow them, there will always have consequences. Students will be gaining responsibility for collage and the real world after that. To succeed in life people need independence, maturity, and responsibility.
In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
Look back at what you ate at school and ask yourself if it is healthy. Is there healthy alternatives to school lunch? Is there a variety of choices to choose from? Are there any vegetarian choices for the students? These are just some of the basic questions you would ask yourself when thinking about the risks of school lunches.
But if we were to not have lunch, then we could either get out of school earlier and be able to eat at home, or use that extra period for more class time. We would also be able to eat whatever we want and actually know what is
Studies show that overweight students tend to have more problems with learning and paying attention (Miura). Many parents also fear that children would have the chance to skip school of get into drugs and alcohol while they are loose for their lunch break. People of the communities have also expressed their fears of increased traffic and increased risk of traffic collisions (?9 Primary Pros and Cons of Open Campus Lunch?). Not only can open lunches cause health problems, but they can lead to other dangers such as a car crash or
Moreover, as part of the Asian immigrant Students Discourse community, my personal experience isn’t great either when I first arrived in the United States. Indeed has become the main reason that I want to choose this particular topic about Asian immigrant Students right. I remember back in the middle school days, all the students wasn’t allow go to any classroom during the break, otherwise if any student caught by the security; they may get the detention from the Principal. One day, as usual after I finished my lunch, I sit the quad and talk my friends; basically the quad is the only place you could really stay in the school during the lunchtime. In addition, as the lunch break fly by, the class has already started.
I also believe that students should be allowed to eat in class, because they need to stay well nourished. Throughout the school day, students often become less focused and eager to stay on task during school. This is becoming an ever increasing problem. This could easily be fixed with a snack throughout the day.
Stress has become a major issue for high school students. Many students have seven classes, participate in sports, have after school activities, homework, and need to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Some parents and outside influencers don’t see the benefits of having a longer lunch period for high school students. Students complain about how long school is now but they don 't have enough time outside of school to complete everything they are expected to. While it is understandable that some parents wouldn’t want longer lunches because it could result in safety issues and students having to remain in school 30 minutes longer than the traditional time, longer lunches would give students a chance to complete homework, get help from teachers, and eat a nutritious meal.
